"Poetry begins in
delight and ends in
wisdom." (Robert Frost)
Experience with poetry
is an important part of a
child's education. Poetry
can be hilarious, ad-
venturous, sensitive, or
emotional. Poetry
enriches the child's
personal experience by
bringing him or her into
contact with the per-
ceptions of other minds.
I have chosen the
following selections to be
read aloud to young
children for their -joy and
pleasure:
The stuff and nonsense
root', of Fri YY'l rd Y r'lr

and Ogden Nash are
always favourites for
their rhyme and rhythm.
Watch how Mr. and Mrs.
Spikky Sparrow outfit
their family for spring.
Have no fear of
Custard, the cowardly
dragon, with his "realio,
trulio daggers on his
toes", but do beware of
the Wendigo's "slithery,
slimy, scummy leathery
tentacles." in Custard the
Dragon and The Wen-
digo.

delightful. Hear
Christopher Robin say,
"There's nobody else in
the world, and the world
was made for me," a
belief held firm by ail
children!
Take the child on your
lap as you read to him
and let him have the fun
of reading all the poems
printed in blue from John
Ciardi's You read to me,
I'll read to you. The
poems cover a multitude
of subjects -- About the
Teeth of Sharks, Little
Bits, How to Tell a Tiger
and more cleverly
written and humorous
rhymes.
I eat my peas with

pared to the barrels of

poetry reading. He allows
the child's imagination to
play on things she lives
with every day. The

In a letter to Prime

Federation requests
"that the terms of

and that a new set be

thorough and adequate

Provincial Board adopted
a six-page critique of the

in the guidelines is
soundly criticized in the
statement.
In an interview Elbert

Executive Director of the
Federation said: "There
is no way the farmers will
accept this. It will;; con-
firm ,farmers' suspicions
over the past several

agricultural policies are
tipping away from

critique says: "The
