Lions drop two exhibition games
The Goderich Lions
Pee Wees dropped a pair
of exhibition games last
weekend. Friday night in
Parkhill, the Lions lost a
close 4-3 verdict to the
Parkhill Pee Wees.
Saturday the Lions lost 7-
1 to the Stratford Major
"AA" team in Stratford.
The Parkhill team was
last season's OMHA Pee
Wee C champions and
had several members of
the championship team
return this season- The
Lions led 1-0 after the
first period on a goal by
Goderich novice team lost their second game in the Kincardine
Lions' Novice Tournament . Saturday. After losing 10-1 to Kin-
cardine early in the day, the local team went down to defeat at
the hands of Seaforth with a anal score of 5-u. Seaforth put in a
fine goal against the Goderich team in the third period here and
sunk three moredduring this period. (Joy Manley phgto)
John Thompson„ assisted
by David Day. The team
traded goals in the
second, with Bob White
scoring for Parkhill and
Shawn Rahbek scoring
for the Lions on a shot
from the point. David
Day assisted on Rahbek's
goal.
Parkhill came on
strong with three goals in
the third period. Steve
Griffith had two of the
Parkhill goals and Ted
Hodgins had the other.
Peter Stahl came back
with the Lions' third goal
late in' period but
Goderich could not get
the equalizer.
In Stratford, the Kions
held their own in the first
period. Each team scored
once, with Grant Garrow-
scoring for Goderich,
assisted by John

Thompson. Jim Wilson
got the Stratford goal.
Stratford scored three
times in each of the
second and third periods
to sew it up. Marshall.
Wilken had two of the
Stratford goals. Singles
went to' 'Jeremy Leete,
Jeff Ernest, Pat Schooley
and John Noble.
The Lions' next start
will 'be tomorrow
• (Friday' in their first
game in the Goderich
Lions Young Canada
Week Tournament. -They
take on Exeter at 7:50
p.m. If the Lions defeat
Exeter they will play at
4:20 p.m. Saturday
against the winner of
Streetsville and Delhi. A
loss to Exeter would put
the Lions into as2 p.m.
game Saturday against
the loser at Streetsville
and Delhi.
Denomme wins
house league
Denomme Flowers
eliminated Sproule Shoes
in the semi-finals of the
Pee Wee House League in
a 1-1 tie game last
Monday evening, giving
Denomme's a 6-3 total
goal win. It was a hard
fought game with Tim
Riehl scoring for Sproule
Shoes at the 58 second
mark of the first period
on an assist from Mike
Collins.
The Sproule team was
able to hold this lead until
the 4:50 mark of the third
Bantam B's reach semi-final against Mooretown �Tn period when Ken Huff

for Denomme Flowers to
'' The fourth game
against New Hamburg
Bantams was played in
New Hamburg on March
4 in which Goderich
Bantam Bs lost 3-1.
Goderich is leading the
series with two wins and
one game tied, two of
these . games went into
overtime.

goal by Steve Witmer and
then went ahead 2-0 again
on a late second period
goal by Rheal Paquette.
Goderich finally got on
the score sheet spoiling
Dan Michael's shut -out as
Mike Chisholm received
a pass from Ron Stoddard
from the corner and
drove it home, making it
2-1 to start the third
period. New Hamburg
came right back 53
seconds later to make the
final score 3-1 on 'a goal
by Cary Hobson.
Fifth game of the series
was at the Goderich
Arena last Thursday and
Goderich won the game
and series with a. 6-0
victory. Doug Dickson
came through with a
shut -out as the team
played its best game of
the series. -Til' the first -
period Joe Morrissey
picked up • two goals as.
Rob Kisch, Scott, Profit
and Don McCallum drew
assist on the goals. Three
more goals were scored
In the middle period. as
Jim Young made it 3-0 on
a three-way passing play,

Stratford girls rip Goderich 11=4

Stratford's high -flying
girl's Ringette team
came to Goderich on
Sunday morning to
challenge the Goderich
senior girls in an
exhibition game at the
arena. Although out-
scored by Stratford,
Goderich provided its
fans with an exciting two
periods.
Michelle Boyce had her
work cut out as she made
many numerous saves to
keep the score, attthe end
of the:game, 11 4..
Stratford is well-known
_ in Ringette circles as a
championship team and,
• is leaving shortly for
Michigan to participate
in a tournament there.
Hopefully, they will
return with a trophy in
their hands.,

apiece and Karen

penalty was handed out to
Goderich for body con-
tact and one to Stratford
for tripping.
Next Sunday, March
18th, the junior and senior
teams will be travelling
to Gorrie to participate in
the play-offs with teams
from Goderich, Listowel,
Wingham and Seaforth
competing. Starting time
for the games is 4:00 p.m.
at the Howick Com-
munity Centre.

points after losing a five -
pointer to the last place
Hopefuls.
Don Henry's 281 single
and 673 triple salvaged
two points for the leaders
and increased their
season 'total to 98. The
Hopefuls got a 293 single
and 719 triple from Terry
Ryan to boost their point
total to 70.
The Recalls moved
within two points of the
leaders taking five'points
from the Signal Stars.
„Charlie Williams rolled a
249 single and Jim Mero a

Ed Byrski was the top
Star with a 302 single and
759 triple.
The BDs jumped into
third place with a seven
point sweep over Roys
Boys to boost their season
total to 86. Don Johnston
had a 278 single and 725
triple for the BDs.
Roys Boys, tied for
fourth spot with 83 points,
got. a 238 single and 658
triple from Manfred
Popersnitch. Marg
Little Bowl moved into
a tie with Roys Boys
ripping the Tail Ends for

French remained one
point ahead of the
Doggies in the standings
and got a 239 single and
644 triple from Kevin
Rumig.

Flowers 'was played on
Saturday morning with
Denomme Flowers
winning the Goderich Pee
Wee House League
season in a 3-1 win over
the McGee ; Firebirds.
Chris. Starkey scored the
goal for the Firebirds

an assist from Eddie
Craig.
The Firebirds were
able to hold Denomme
Flowers off till early in
the third period when
Denomme came back
with two fast goals from
Brian Hanna to give them
a 2-1 lead. The final goal
was scored by Peter
Conlon, with 11 seconds to
go, into an empty net. It
was great to see so many
parents out to watch this
final game of this season.
