Dave Ross led the Suns lead Hanover in WOAA The Suns tightened their hold on the WOAA Atom championship series by• defeating Hanover 5-1 in Hanover last Saturday. The Suns came Up with an all-out team effort to take the lead in the best -of -five. series, two games to one. Goderich took the lead in the first shift when Curt McPherson put a pass on Davey Jewell's stick and Jewell found the seams between the Hanover defenders' to score. Later in the first period Todd Gilchrist fired in. a rebound on a shot from Jewell to put the Suns up 2-0. Hanover looked like they 'might give the Suns some trouble as Mike Jank scored on a shot from the point to close the first period 2-1 but the Goderich defence proved too tough. The Goderich defensive effort was led by Darren Doak who played an outstanding game, constantly clearing the puck from the Suns' zone and controlling the puck on offense. Darren's extra effort was the key in the third period when Goderich played shor- thanded for six minutes and still didn't give up a goal. In the second period Jewell again got things moving by scoring on a hard shot from 10 feet out. Dave Telford assisted on the goal. Scoring in the third period was all Goderich as Shawn Larder scored on a hard shot set up by a sharp passing play that started with a relay from Steve Schutz to Kevin Talbot who saw Larder in the open and fed him perfectly. Goderich notched their last goal as Ronnie Chapman and Jewell again set Scott Garrow in the open behind the Hanover defences. The Suns could end their championship quest as they face Hanover at Goderich on Thursday at 7 p.m. Best of luck to the Suns and we hopes fans will see your best game of the season. double G's in the game against Kincardine with 25 points, while team- mate Jeff Baechler chipped in with 22 points.
