two also led the, Viking
.rebounding with 10 and
seven respectively. Scott
Bell was a strong
defensive factor for the
Vikings, holding Centrals
Paul Kjaer to eight
points. Kjaer ..Lha¢ 19

they met in regular
season play/. Joe
Morrissey had five
Viking points while Bell,
Ben Melick, Jim
MacDonald, Rob
Plunkett, and John Leddy
had two apiece. Phil
Grace and Karl Krohmer
had one point each.
The matchup between
the Vikings and Stratford
Northwestern was a
fitting finale to the
tournament as they' were
the top two teams in the
Conference all season.
Northwestern was un-
defeated in league play
and the Vikings only loss
was by nine points to
Northwestern in the final
game of the regular
schedule. The Vikings
had defeated Nor-
thwestern in the Goderich
Bluewater Tournament
by four points so their
game i.n the cham-
pionship final was a
"rubber -match" between
the two teams.
Again, Scott Bell did a
big defensive job limiting
Stratford's Mike Otto,
their big shooter, to ,just

game for the Vikings.
They were able to keep
Northwestern outside and
did ar} effective job on the
defensive boards to limit
the Huskies scoring
chances. The Vikings won
36-19, jumping off to a
seven point lead early in
the, game and main-
taining that margin until
the fourth quarter when
Northwestern tried to
press. This allowed the
Vikings to fast -break and
increase their lead.
Rob Plunkett had 11
points for the Vikings.
Kevin Adams added
eight, Colin Alexander
had six, Chris Pitre five,
Scott Bell four, and Ben
Melick had two points.
Plunkett, Adams and
Pitre led the, rebounding
while Alexander, Melick
and Joe Morrissey
controlled the ball of-
fensively, turning it over
only three times.
The midget Vikings
finished their cham-
pionship season with an
overall record of 17-5 and
were 11-1 against league
opponents.

championship in tour-
nament play in Listowel
last Tuesday.
All ten Huron -Perth
Conference teams took
part in the day -long
tournament. The GDCI
Vikings, as second place
finishers in the regular
schedule, drew ..a bye in
the first round, and then
chalked up victories over
Exeter, Stratford Cen-
tral, and their chief
rivals, Stratford Nor-
thwestern, enroute to the
championship. Nor-
thwestern defeated
Listowel and Mitchell to
reach the finals.
Despite a slow start in
their first game with
Exeter, the Vikings came
on to defeat the Panthers
38-19. Scott Bell who
played a strong game
both ways for the
Vikings, had nine points.
Chris Pitre added eight
and Colin Alexander had
five. Joe Morrissey and'
Rob Plunkett had four
points each. Kevin
Adams with three, Ben
Melick and Dave
MacDonald with two
each,\ and Jim
MacDonald with one
point rounded out the
Viking attack.
Dave Shaw, with 13
points for Exeter, was the
games top scorer.
The Vikings then won
37-28 over Stratford
Central, led by Kevin
Adams and Chris Pitre,
each with 10 points. Those
three points. Viking
coach Myles Murdock
also made some key
changes in his defensive
system from the last time
his team played the
Huskies going to a 2-1-2
system and forcing
Northwestern to bring the
ball down the left side of
the court to disrupt their
normal offensive pattern.
