Midgets in quarter final
The Goderich Green
and Parent Midgets
advanced to the Ontario
Minor Hockey
Association quarter-
finals with an easy two -
game sweep over
Strathroy last week.
The . •local midgets
overpowered . Strathroy

thrashed them again, 14-4
in Strathroy Saturday to
win the best -of -three

meet Amherstburg in a
best -of -five quarter final
series, with the first
game here Saturday at 8
p.m. Game two is set for
Amherstburg Sunday at 5
p.m.
Strathroy provided
little challenge for the
Green and Parent team
and seemed more intent
on watching the game
from the penalty box than
in staying on the ice and
playing hockey.
Strathroy received a two -
:game total of 68 penalty
inutes compared to 16
minutesdfor the .Goderich
team.
The score was close
only at one point in the
first game. Goderich
"opened up a 4-0 lead in the
first period, only to see
Strathroy come back with
three goals in the second
td pull within one goal,
but then the Goderich
boys went to work and
scored eight unanswered
goals to turn the game
into a rout:
Dan Maillet was the big
scorer for Goderich with
four tallies. Mike Hodges
added a pair. Single goals
went to Rob McDonald,
Jim Costello, Larry
Gaynor, Mike Wedlock,

" Boyce.

other on*
It was strictly no
contest in Strathroy as
Goderich led 5-0 after one
period and held an 11-3
' lead after the second
enroute to their 14-4 romp.
The Strathroy midget goaltender kicks out a shot as Green and
Parent forwards Larry Madge and Rob Trebish look for a
rebound in playoff action in Goderich last week. Goderich easily
disposed of Strathroy in two straight games in the series and will
now play Amherstburg in a best-bt-five quarter final series. The
first game of the series will be played in Goderich Saturday at the

Gee Gees victory
It was a busy weekend for the Goderich Gee
Gees who played three games -including two in
a Toronto tournament.
On Friday night..Goderich hosted the second
place Owen Sound team in a hard fought battle
that resulted in a 66-60 win for the Gee Gees. It
was a close game all the way with Goderich
actually losing by one point at half time but•a
controlled offence with balanced scoring and a
stingy defence combined to insure a home
victory.
The Goderich fans were astonished by an
amazing display of foul shooting as Goderich
put in an almost inconceivable 20 of 21 throws.
' Jim Watt and Greg Beacom shared top
scoring honours with 16 points each, Warren
Watt was next with 12 (including tem for ten
from the foul line), Bill Gauley and Paul
Tomass each had eight, Jeff Baechler and Dave
Ross rounded off the scoring with.four and two

Although the Goderich
midgets had an easy time
of it against Strathroy,

his crew are looking
forward to the Amher-
stburg series. The
Amherstsburg team won
the playoff in the Windsor
area and are bound to
provide some stiff
competition for the high-
flying Green and Parent
midgets. A good crowd is
expected to be on hand
for the opening garne
here Saturday night.
Stars to play Strathroy tonight
The Goderich Signal -
Star juveniles finally
have an opponent for the

Due to time this series
has been shortened to a
best -of -three series and
will begin in Godedrich
tonight ( Thursday ) in
the Goderich Memorial
Community Centre at 8

Juvenile coach, Doug
Cruickshank • wasn't
pleased that the series
was altered to three
games since Goderich
hasn't played for at least
two weeks. But he said
his team has been
practicing well and is
ready for the series.
The winner of the
Strathroy-Goderich
series will then play
Mooretown, who have
also been waiting
patiently for their next
round opponent.
If Goderich wins the
series with Strathroy
they would play
Mooretown in the quarter
