W.I. gets update on history
The Curator of the
Tweedsmuir History
Book, Mrs. Thomas
Haggitt, gave a resume of
the work of her com-
mittee bringing the
history of the village and
district up to date at the
February meeting of the
Auburn ' Women's.
Institute when it met in
the Community
Memorial Hall a4 last
Tuesday.
President, Mrs.
Eleanor Bradnock, was
in charge of the meeting
which was opened with
the Ode, the Mary
Stewart Collect and 0
Canada. Mrs. Catherine
Jackson was the pianist.
After welcoming
everyone, the president
gave a reading, I Shall
Pass Through This World
But Once.
The minutes were
accepted as read by the
secretary, Mrs. Robert
Peck. It was announced
that the Huron -West
District executive
meeting will be held on
April 2 at 1:30 p.m.
The float was discussed
and ideas exchanged with
members asking to bring
more ideas for the next
meeting.
The needlepoint classes
are to begin on Friday,
February 23 at 1 p.m. in
the•hall.
The card report was
given by Mrs. Lillian
Letherland and thank -
you cards were read from
Mrs. Randy Machan and
Craig and Robert Turner,
The roll call was an-
swered by naming a
museum you had visited
and. something you found
interesting in it.
Mrs. Catherine
Jackson played a pian,
solo of a medley of tunes,
and Mrs. Oliver Anderson
gave a reading, Let Your -
Pastor Know. A •solo,
Paper Roses, was sung
by Mrs. Gordon Chamney
accompanied by Mrs.
Donald Haines.
A Valentine contest
was conducted by Mrs.
Beth Lansing and the
winner was Mrs. Thomas
Haggitt.
Lunch was served by
Mrs. Beth Lansing, Mrs.
Robert Turner and Mrs.
Catherine Jackson. Mrs.
Gordon Chamney held
the lucky' serviette and
cup and received two
prizes.

home last Saturday after
surgery in Clinton
Hospital where he had
been hospitalized for a
'few weeks.

meeting in the hall on
March 5 at 8 p.m. The
Rev. Wayne Good of
Blyth will show pictures
of flowers and speak of
flower culture. Everyone
is welcome.

to return home last

Women of St. Mark's
Church in Auburn held
their February meeting
at the home of Mrs.
Thomas Haggitt.
Mrs. Haggitt was in
charge off the meeting
which opened with the
.reading of the hymn, 0
Holy Spirit, Whom our
Master Sent.
The scripture lesson,
second Peter. 1:2-8 verses
was read by Mrs. Thomas
Lawlor.
All repeated the
general thanksgiving
prayer followed by the
Lord's prayer.
The • topic on Martha
from the Living Message
was read by Mrs. Lillian
Letherland. Other
readings taken were:
Mrs. Donald Cartwright,
I Wonder; Mrs. Thomas
Haggitt, God Speaks; and
Mrs. Thomas Lawlor -
Walker of the Field.
This part of the
meeting was closed with
the hymn, Approach My
Soul, the Mercy Seat.
President, Mrs. Donald
Cartwright took charge of
the business. The minutes
were read' in the absence
of the secretary, Mrs.
John Daer. The
treasurer, Mrs. Thomas
Haggitt, - gave the
financial statement. The
roll call was answered by
A Thought for Lent.
Correspondence was read
and Mrs. Cartwright
gave a reading, God Goes
on Strike. The offering
was received and
dedicated and the
travelling apron was
passed.
The meeting was closed
with grace and lunch was
served by Mrs. Haggitt.
The remainder of the
afternoon was spent
quilting.

of Ottawa returned home
last Tuesday after
visiting for several days
with her mother-in-law,
Mrs. Myrtle Munro.
Mr. and Mrs. Donald
Young attended • the_
Ontario Plowman's
annual convention at
Toronto last week. On
Wednesday and Thur-
sday they attended the
annual convention or the
Ontario Association of
Agricultural Societies
and also attended the
retirement presentations
for. Mr. E. A. Starr who
retired as secretary -
treasurer of both
Associations. Donald is
secretary -treasurer of
District 8 for the Ontario
Agricultural Society.
Miss Rose -Marie
Young has returned home
from Cli•pton Public
Hospital where she had
spent four days last week
recovering from a broken
leg.
Mr. and Mrs. Bob
Williams of Toronto spent
the weekend with her
brother, Mr. Donald
Cartwright, Mrs. Cart-
wright, David, Derrick
and Lorie.
The needlepoint classes
have begun and there is
good response to this
project.. The second
meeting will be held on
Monday in the hall. Those
who have been unable to
attend these classes and
wish to take it please
contact the leader, Mrs.
Eleanor Bradnock.
4-H NEWS
Auburn I, 9-H club held
their fourth meeting at
the home of Nancy
Verbeek with, ; the
president, . Patti
McDowell in charge. The
meeting was opened with
the 4-H pledge.
The members decided
to give their club the
name, The Toucher
Uppers. They did a quiz
on consumer decision and
had a discussion on
choo.ing shoes and
purses.
The fifth meeting was
held at the home of Nancy
Verbeek with Patti
McDowell in the chair.
Each girl brought a
piece of jewellery in a
bag and after scrambling
the parcels, each girl
selected a bag other than
her own. .The. _.... girls,
`selected a wardrobe and
occasion to go" with the
jewellery piece.
The meeting closed
with the 4-H motto.
