Maitland Manor residents enjoy Valentine tea
Valentine's Day was
celebrated at Maitland
Manor with a special tea
for the residents. The
kitchen staff prepared
heart shaped cakes
served with ice cream.
The Manor was ap-
propriately decorated
and special treats were
provided ,thanks to Mrs.
Sandra Leddy and her
Girl Guides as well as
Mrs. Adele Drennan and
the, First Goderich
Brownie Pack.
The residents have had
a busy winter and as
people everywhere, have
ways to beat the winter.

There are regular
movies on Tuesdays and
Rhythm Band on
Thursdays.
Gord Harrison has
arranged another trip for
the residents to entertain
at the Bluewater Centre -
always a happy outing.
Theresidents have also
been preparing crafts
and ceramics for their
bazaar to be held next
fall. Some ceramics are
on display in the Tuck
People
Shop' and are available
for sale.
A birthday party was
held in January for the
following residents:

As the Manor's
programs are ever ex-
panding,, the activity
' area needs to be extended
and therefore
renovations are un-
derway at the present
time. For the goals to be
achieved, the Manor is
always in need of more

their first meeting of the
new year on Wednesday,
February 14.
Mrs. Dan Murphy
chaired the meeting and
after the opening prayer,
she read the Diocesan
Director's message.
In his message, Father
White in commenting on
th6 International Year of
the Child, stated that the
Diocesan group will be
very busy promoting its
theme, "A Child, the
Supreme Gift". This
theme has been adopted
for the Diocesan Con-
vention to be held at the
University of Windsor,
May 8 and 9.
Secretary, Miss Eileen
O'Brien, read the
Minutes of the December
meeting, and also of the
executive meeting held in
January.
Many thank you notes
were received, and a
letter was received from
the Sisters of St. Joseph,
explaining their work in
Peru in the missionary
field.

A theatrical tradition is
to say, "Break a leg",
never good luck. We are
ready to open our show,
"The Four Poster",
therefore, to our cast and
crew, "Break a leg".
A great many hours
and much hard work
have gone into this
production, and having
lived through the
technical and dress
rehearsal, we feel we
have a worthy show.
There were enough
hitches to put the crew on
its mettle. Now we are
looking forward to a high
energy, fast moving,
crisp preduction.
If you can't see the
production in Goderich on
February 22, 23, or 24, we
are mounting it again on
Wednesday, March 7 at

At last week's
February meeting of the
Ladies' Legion Auxiliary,
Evelyn Chambers was
horaired at a short
memorial service.
There were 49 in at-
tendance as yearly
reports were read and
appreciated.
Plans were made for
improving future
catering arrangements.
Members are looking
ahead to their annual
invitational Bowling
To-urnament in April.
Many expressed their
interest in the St.
Patrick's Day visit to Bay
City.
President Ann Sprung
won the attendance draw.
On February 11 a great
crowd attended. the
Auxiliary's first annual
mixed euchre • .game.
Nineteen tables- gathered
that cold Sunday af-
ternoon. Trophy winners
were Harvey Johnston,
Myrtle Good and Lou and
Gordon Watson.
Second place winners

were Grace Mugford, Iris
Sampson, Isobel
McDonald and Bessie
Bissett. Third place
winners were Rose Hill,
Vi George, Donna Culbert
and Jack Videan.
Barney Davis won the
prize for the most lone
hands and Grace
Mugford won this prize
for the women. Lenore
Bradley and Jerry Petrie
won the draw.

the membership drive in
March, so to have it
completed in time. Any
new ladies in the Parish
wishing to join, should
contact Mrs. Murphy or
Father Loebach.
March 12 will be the
next C.W.L. meeting and '
it will be -a mission
me -et -jag. A special
speaker will be present to
speak of • his experience
as a missionary.
Father Loebach
renewed his request for
the League's support in
the - promotion of the
Marriage and Family
renewal program, by
participation and
prayers. The program
will be held every Sunday
night during Lent.

The meeting adjourned

A dainty Valentine
luncheon was served by
the hostesses, Mrs. Barb
Moerbeck, Mrs. Rose
Marie Evans, and Mrs.
Marg Miller.
Child, the National
Chapter IODE has
raised, through donations
from the organization's
8p rimary' chapters,
$24,000 to pay for six
incubators to be used in
the _Northwest
Territories.
These incubators can
be adapted to hook into
the electrical system of
an airplane and will
carry premature or sick
babies, who require
specialized care, from
remote nursing stations
to secondary care centres
in Frobisher Bay,
Yellowknife, Inuvik and
Hay. River, N.W.T. .and
Churchill, Manitoba or on
to hospitals in Winnipeg
or Montreal. They can
also operate on a battery
system to carry the infant
by road.
The first of these has
already been delivered
and is in operation,
presently as a stationary
unit at a nursing station
in Nanisivik, • a fairly,
recently founded com-
munity at the •northern
end of Baffin Island on
Strathcona Sound.
Mrs. Helen Dick, who is
Services Secretary for
the National Chapter
IODE,' is working on this
project with Dr. F.J.
Covill, Regional Director
of Medical Services for
the Northwest Territories
Region under the
„Department of Health
and Welfare, Canada,
anctas the need arises for
more of these incubators
in the' future, IODE
members will raise the
money to buy them.

Feb. -16. It was very
successful. The Juniors
brought all the food
before the Seniors pit
there.
Last Wednesday, Mrs.
Pare's grade 5 and 6, Mr.
Scratch's grade 6, and
Mr. Currie's grade 5
classes went skating at
the Arena. All students
and teachers had a great
time.
The primary grades
really enjoyed Valen-
tine's Day as usual. Many
kind parents sent cookies,
candies, and cakes to
help the parties along. We
thank all of these
thoughtful people. The
children always enjoy
exchanging 'cards and
seeing who their
Valentines are.
