(Photo by .1oanne•Buchanan) Mrs. Bill Garrow is Regent The•February meeting of Maple Leaf Chapter IODE met at the home of Mrs. R. Lane with a good attendance. Both table flags were on display and the Regent,. Mrs. W. Garrow, presided for the business. The Chapter has again agreed to'sponsor the Red Cross Campaign under the 'co -chairmanship of Mrs. P. Howe and Mrs. F. Curry. The canvass will beheld March 5 through to March 10. Mrs. W. Stanbury, membership secretary, brought forward Mrs. W.A. Finnie, Mrs. D. Sine and Mr's. P. Schutz, who took their affirmation. These ladies were warmly welcomed to the Chapter by the Regent. Mrs. M. Rayner 'presented the slateof officers for 1979. Mrs. C. Edward thanked Mrs. Lane for opening her home for the meeting. The regular meeting was adjourned and the annual meeting con- vened. The following is taken from the secretary's excellent annual report given by Mrs. P. Rivers for 1978.1 "As of January 15, 1979 there are 79 members on the Roll. Two members received 15 - year pins which were presented by Mrs. D.D. Mooney, a member of 51 years. An essay contest was held among the town schools with winners at three grade levels het - ween Grades 3 and 8. IODE calendars were distributed to the Chapter and flag pamphlets to local -schools, youth groups and the library. In addition, the usual trophies, awards and bursaries were presented to individuals at local schools. Four symphony tickets were purchased and for LIFE INSURANCE donated to G.D.C.I. music students. Sheet music \vas donated to the Teen Tones. �7Dther contributions to the community were: silverware to the Keays Street Residence of the Goderich and District Association for the Mentally Retarded: a donation to the Christmas Bureau operated by the Family and Children's Services: two rocking chairs and an emergency portable suction machine for the Alexandra Marine and General Hospital, and a wheelchair for the Huron Day Centre for the Homebound at Huron - view. Knitted and sewn articles were collected for the bale and sent to headquarters for distribution. Annual reports 'were given by the treasurer, Mrs. E.D. Howey and the Opportunity Shop con- vener. Mrs. H. Murphy. Mrs. Garrow expressed her appreciation to -all members for their support° during the past year, Mrs. Rayner, on behalf of the Chapter, thanked Mrs. Garrow for her l adership uring 197S and wished'Fier another successful year in 1979, Mrs. Rayner then in- stalled the fo11.0wing executive for 1979: Past Regent - Mrs. G.L. Aided . by an Arts Council grant and the 'Board of Education, Darnbrough was• able to take a leavye of absence from has regular factory job and set up a small studio in the school where she gave 15 minute lessons In silk screening, wood cuts and the basic break down of colors to each class every day for two weeks. Those students who were really enthused about art, were en- couraged to spend some extra time after school with Darnbrough to do freelance work for a show which will be put an for the general public. Darnbrough graduated with his honors BA degree in Fine Arts from Guelph Univeristy. The course he taught at Victoria was a crash one but he hopes it gave the students a better un- derstanding and ap- preciation of art.
