On Wednesday, February 7 public_ speaking was of special concern at Colborne Central School when several students tried for a place in the Legion PublicApeaking Contest. Mr. rtsley, Mrs. Ila Kayes and Mrs. Shirley Hazlitt were the judges on Wednesday and students chosen for the Legion Public Speaking Contest will be an- nounced later. The students will soon be preparing for a special musical to be put on at the school in late spring. They have chosen the Gilbert and Sullivan HMS Pinafore which'should be a special treat, bringing back some . fond memories to many. The following week, the friends and neighbours of Bob and Mary surprised them and further celebrated the an- niversary bringing good wishes and gifts. The community join in the best of wishes to this couple and hopes they will celebrate many more anniversaries. Recent visitors in London were Mrs. Lillian Simpson, Mrs. Gordon Finlayson and Mrs. Oliver McCharles. Many from the area attended the Farm Show in Toronto during the past week. Among them were Lynn Loury and Ken Elphick. Mr. and Mrs. Oliver McCharles were recent visitors in Mount Forest with Mr. and Mrs. Elmer MacKenzie who wanted to be remembered to all the folks in the area. Mr. Lloyd Robb, who recently moved to Goderich, was a patient in hospital there but is at home again now. Mr. Frank MacLennan returned home from hospital in Wingham after a second trip there since Christmas. CHURCH NEWS At the Annual Meeting of Ashfield Presbyterian Church, • reports, were heard from various committees and plans were made for the church work in the new year. The WMS meeting of Ashfield Presbyterian - Church was held at the home of Mrs. Jean West with Mrs. Nugent of Ripley giving a talk on the new study book on China.
