BY CLAIR SAMS,
PASTOR,
BIBLE MISSIONARY
CHURCH, GODERICH
Hosea 5:7, "They have
' dealt treacherously
against the Lord: for they
have begotten strange
children."
Our generation is very
familiar with the ex-
perience' which caused
the inspiration of the
words written by the Old
Testament Prophet,
Hosea; that being an
unfaithful companion and
a broken home. Matter of
fact, we are seeing a
large segment of our
society who seem to favor
just such an unholy life
style.
One of the difficulties of
this sort of situation is an
effect which may not be
seen immediately, but is
none _less a matter of
concern.
You may ask what
effect could there
possibly be that can't be
easily se.en?
One of the first to
surface is children who
are strangers to their
parents, as well as to
their heritage, such as
morality, spirituality and
true freedom.
In other words, are we
not raising a generation
of youth who are
strangers in our own
homes? May I say it this
way, have the things of
God become strange and
dull •to you and your
family? Are you at home
and comfortable where
the Spirit of God moves
and works? May we ask
ourselves, are we
strangers to,; the power,
purity, promise, and
prayer of spiritual life?"
Do you know His ability
to change completely
your life?
Scripture•.. tells us
salvation will cause - a
man to love things he
once hated and hate
things"he once loved.
We ought to be well
acquainted with the voice
of God. His voice need not
be a -strange, seldom
heard sound to you. But to
know•Him and His voice
you mustgive close at-
tention.
You may have become
a stranger to the power of
application, or the power
of the blood of Christ.
Scripture tells us that•
there is no forgiveness for
sin but through -the
Shedding of blood.
The song writer said,
"There is power in the
blood of Jesus, power to
save, power to cleanse
from sin."
Jesus suffered and
gave His life for your
salvation. Are you a
stranger to such a
glorious gift?
Has the altar lost its
power in your life? There
can be a place of spiritual
birth and power and that
place is known as the
altar: You ' must be at-
tentive to the place of
prayer if you are to be a
family member with.
Jesus.
Are you a stranger to
the purity of God as well
as His power? You can be
well acquainted with the
fact 'of God's purity! His
ability to cleanse and the
joy of cleansing from sin
-may be a real experience
to you. To know God is to
know and enjoy purity of
attitude, love, motives,
and every aspect of life.
You need ..n.ot be a_
stranger to the promises
of God, although it,.,
evident that the majority
are by the little that is
done for Christ.
Remember God has
made a covenant with
man. If you will keep
your end of the eternal
covenant, that being
repentance for sin and
obedience daily, God will
inigterfs
study
sustain and strengthen
you each day.
I4e has also promised
protection and privilege
of eternal joy here and
now and eternal life after
death. His promises
abound beyond
description.
Finally are you or have
you become a stranger to
prayer? Do you know
anything' of what Jesus
taught that prayer ought
to be? Are your children
strangers to prayer?
.Dave they heard you
pray?
Jesus and Paul both
spent much of their effort
on prayer; the time
spent, the subject matter,
the method and the
results.
I am afraid we have
allowed prayer to
degenerate into a slight
meditation or repetition
of words and lost the real
force and attitude of
prayer.
Paul referred to - prayer
as supplication or humbly
entreating God. Does God
know your voice when
you plead for assistance?
He also spoke of in-
tercessions. A person told
me, there is no need for
us to intercede and
agonize for souls. But
Paul thought there was
need for this most im-
portant aspect of prayer.

Religion Day
BY JOANNE DURST
On Sunday, January 1,
the Baha'i Children of
Goderich, celebrated"
World Religion Day. The
children and their
friends, gathered in the
home of Phyllis and
Albert Durst for a day of
tobogganing and winter
fun activities.
Guests were welcomed
from the communities of
Kincardine, Dungannon
and Stratford.
Even though the day
was very cold, it didn't
seem to hinder the en-
joyment of all who took
advantage of the superb
hill on the Durst farm.
The only disadvantage
was .the long climb back
to the top, but even that
didn't curb anyone's
enthusiasm.
After lunch had been
serveda. the children
gathered " around a
roaring fire to be led in a
singsong by Sandra
Colborne and Joanne
Durst.
Later, Cynthia Beyak
told a beautiful story of
the love and brotherhood
we feel as we gather to
celebrate World Religion
Day. It is a time to forget
our differences and come
together with the hope in
our hearts that someday
soon, all people can live
as brothers, sharing
equally in the bounties of
the earth, and realize that
no matter what religion
we are, or what name we
choose to call it, we are
all loving the same spirit
of God.
Before the happy day
came to an end, everyone
enjoyed a beautiful cake
decorated `especially for
World Religion Day by
Phyllis Durst.
It was inthe shape of a
nine pointed star, sym-
bolizing the nine revealed
religions brought by
messengers of God such
as: Moses,... Buddha,
Christ, Muhammad and
Baha'u'llah.
It was also decorated
with nine children, .each
from a different country,
thus symbolizing the'
unity and brotherhood we
all wish for the world.
A great day was en-
joyed by all and everyone
left with a happy, hopeful
feeling in their hearts.

Do you understand or
have you become a
stranger to intercession?
Paul also mentioned
giving thanks. Praying
Hyde stated, "When I
have failed to reach my
quota of souls for the day,
the Spirit reminds me to
Praise God".
I am afraid we never
have reached the depth of
intercession, therefore
know nothing of the
height of thanksgiving.
Paul thought it important
we pray in the spirit. We
are concerned we pray
intelligently if we pray at
all, but you'll never know
Christ or the glories of
spiritual life if you allow
yourself to remain a
stranger to the power,
purity, promises and
prayer thatmust ac-
company Godliness.
Is it any woi'der we
know and hear nothing
about morality, honesty
and righteousness, when
the church has become
strangers to God and are
raising strange children
in God's house?

IYC is in 1979
The U.N. resolution
creating 1979 as the
International Year of the
Child (IYC) was passed
by the U.N. and seconded
-by Canada in 1976.
In March of 1978 over
100 national voluntary
organizations
unanimously approved in
principle the establish-
ment of a Canadian
Commission for the
International Year of the
Child. Health - and
Welfare Canada has
contributed to the
operating budget for the
year.
The Canadian Com-
mission for IYC, now
operational, is made up of
40 Canadians and
currently constitutes a
working cross-section of
voluntary action, labour,
business and government
sectors of Canadian
society. Judge Doris
Ogilvie of Fredericton,
New Brunswick is
chairman of the
Canadian Commission
for IYC. The Commission
is responsible for
promoting observance of
the IYC in Canada.
The Commission for the
International Year of the
Child will encourage the
widespread involvement
of people and
organizations in order to
advance the rights, in-
terests and well-being of
all Canadian children.
The Commission for the
International Year of the
Child will encourage the
celebra-tion of joy of
childhood and the very
special place that
children have in society
and to create a milieu in
which children's ac-
tivities, creativity,
imagination, ideas and
thinking can be widely
portrayed and demon-
strated.

the IYC are now
