fire area Dr a fire
agreement with the Town
of Goderich and the
Townships of Goderich,
Colborne and Ashfield.
The meeting was held
in the Town of Goderich
council rooms, with all off
Colborne council and
clerk in attendance.
Reeve Bogie spoke on
behalf of the townships
and stated that a fire area
was preferred and he
congratulated the Town
of Goderich on the per-
formance of their fire
department.
In discussing the fire
area,- the problems en-
countered were that the
townships objected to
paying for the Goderich
fire hydrants' costs and
the town council, because
of the large percentage of
the cost of the service
that the town would have
to pay, requested__ en__.
o"veraTl majority of
members on the.fire area
board.
Before discussirig a
cost of service
agreement, it was
decided to recess for a
short time so the town-
ships and town council
could discuss as a
committee.
It was decided by the
Township of Goderich
and: the Township of
Colborne (the Township
of Ashfield was not
represented because of
blocked roads in the
township) to offer (using
equalized assessment) to
pay the Town of Goderich
using the same equalized
assessment and also to
pay. their portion of a
$30,000 capital cost, this
portion to be held as a
credit until a fire area
board is established. The
money is to be paid half -
yearly on a one• or two-
year agreement and is
subject to Ashfield
Township participating..
The Council of 'the
Town of Goderich agreed
to consider the proposal.
at their next council
meeting and to notify the
clerks of the townships
concerned..
