Hooking rugs is one of the latest hobbies for Mrs. Marie Park of Dungannon.
She also likescooking, sewing, knitting, gardening, reading, painting,
bowling and playing cards...She. is the.new Dungannon correspondent for the

to sew, knit and cook and
is presently hooking her
first rug. She is a director"
on the Dungannon Fall
Fair Board. She used to'
enter her sewing and
baking at the fair each
year and has many prizes
to show for these entries.
Mrs. Park likes to
attend the area card
parties and --in the sum-
mer, she is interested in
following baseball. She -
used to play for the
Dungannon women's
baseball team about ten
or 12 years ago. She is
proud of the fact that last
year, while her daughter
was captain, the
Dungannon girls'
baseball team won the
Ashfield Recreation
championship.
Mrs. Park describes
herself as "an awful
reader". She subscribes
to many newspapers and
magazines and says she
has boxes and boxes full
of books, too many for
shelves to hold. She has
read all of these books,
being a very fast reader.
She is presently reading
The Dionne Years by
Pierre Burton.
Mrs. Park likes art,
painting and gardening.
She especially likes roses
'and intends to plant
several rose bushes in her
garden this summer. She
tried to start a hor-
ticultural society in
Dungannon once but it
,has never gotten off the
ground. She wishes
people in Dungannon
would "pull together" a
bit more to form clubs,
etc like some close-knit
communities do.
Mrs. Park belongs to
the Sunset Circle Club in
Goderich, a social group
of women who meet once
a month.
If she could live
anywhere else other than
Dungannon, Mrs. Park
says she would like to live
in the north where she
and her husband take
vacations every summer.
She gets to practice her
photography, another
interest, on these
vacations taking some
"great shots" of scenery.
This past summer,
Mrs. Park operated a
confectionery store out of
her porch at her home in
Dungannon. She was
open very "early in the
morning and sometimes.
until late in the evenings
when other stores were
closed and found her little
business venture to be
quite a success. Ideally,
she says, she would like
to own a restaurant.
Mrs. Park is a
collector. She, has a spoon
collection and has kept
scrapbooks or pictures
and newspaper. clippings
since 1957.
"I keep everything,"
she says adding that she
has a record of all the
births, weddings and
deaths in Dungannon:
When the • census takers
are in Dungannon, they
go to Mrs. ,Park for in-
formation.
'It's surprising how
many people can come
and go in a village the
size of Dungannon, she
says.

The U.C.W. held their
January meeting at the
church op January 23rd
starting with a delicious
-dessert provided by hostess-
es Donna Alton, Tinie Log-
tenberg and Doris Hodges.
The devotional meeting
was taken by Helen Dawson
and Jean l;rrington: Helen
Dawson read a poem and
Jean •Erringtonread the
scripture lesson and a hum-
orous poem.
Mrs. Amy Wiggin'; opened
the business meeting with a
reading.
The minutes were read by
Tinie Logtenberg. Amy Wig-
gins presented information
on needlepoint classes which
will be turned over to the
Willing Workers group.
-The Huron Perth Presby-
terial is at Exeter United
Church later this month .and..
members of the executive
will try to go.
Helen Dawson gave the
treasurer's report, showing a
healthy bank balance.
As was done last year,
Dungannon news for the
paper about 12 years ago.
Things have grown in
Dungannon since then but
Mrs. Park manages to
keep on top of -most of the
activity. Mrs. Bere, being
a member of Dungannon
United Church, will
continue to write the
church news for her and
her son brings home the •
Brookside school news.
Writing the Dungannon
news column is not much
-of a burden, says Mrs.
Park. She feels she is
going to enjoy being the
correspondent again
because the Dungannon
news column is „
something that is needed
in her community. By
writing that column, she
is . contributing to that
com munity.
