The rector, Reverend Dan Sargent, presided and opened with the scripture lesson from Roman twelfth chapter. The minutes of the "last year's annual meeting were read by the vestry clerk, Mrs. Thomas Haggitt. The financial statement was given by the church treasurer, Mrs. Robert Slater and the report•of the A.C.W. was given by Mrs. Donald Cartwright with Mrs. Thomas Haggitt giving the A.C.W. firm nctatstate rtrent. The rector's warden, Fred Lawrence and the people's warden, James Schneider. both reported and thele rector, Rev, Dan Sargent gave his report. As there are four parishes in his congregations, he stated that it is very difficult to be able to cover each .parish as a rector would wish and ways were discussed to better this arrangement. The church budget has been paid in full and a letter from the Bishop congratulating the congregation on this accomplishment 'was read. It was decided to use the new form of com- munion service on a trial .basis. Mrs. Norman Wight- man led in the devotional period on a New Year's theme. She opened the meeting with the hymn, Just a Closer Walk with Thee and Mrs. Donald Haines was pianist. A three-part meditation followed, Let us Take Inventory, by Mrs. Kenneth McDougall; and Let us Remember to Pray Often, by Mrs. Oliver Anderson. The hymn,, Tis the Blessed Hour of Prayer, was sung and , the offering was received and dedicated. Mrs. Norman Wightman. concluded the worship period with prayer. The World Outreach convener, Mrs. Ernest Durnin was in charge of the program. A well- prepared skit entitled, Behind the Scenes in Missionary Land, was presented. Those taking. part were Mrs. Ernest Durnin, • Mrs. • John Durnin, Mrs. Thomas Jardin, Mrs. Donald Haines, Mrs. Dorothy Grange, and Mrs. Maurice Bean. The skit was based ° on a missionary at work in New Guinea, and depicted many aspects of the every day living occurences a missionary faces. The president, Mrs. Donald Haines, con- ducted ' the business session. The full 1978 financial report was. accepted as presented by the , treasurer, Mrs. Oliver Anderson. Setreral members attended the Huron -Perth Presbyterial at Exeter on January 30. Members are asked for donations to' be sent to Goodwill Industries in London in February. A letter ° was read giving details ---of the U.C.W. foster child's progress at Pu.eblito and members voted to con- tinue support in 1979. The date for the annual U.C.W. The community is pleased to report that Mrs. Arnold Craig returned home last Wednesday after a few weeks as a patient in Wingham and District Hospital. Mr. and and Mrs. Bert Marsh returned on the weekend after attending their brother-in-law's funeral, the late Gor- merly Thompson at Brampton and visiting with her sister, Mrs. Edith Thompson. Mr. and Mrs. Bud Chamney and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Lawrence being $355.94 to keep up the flowerbeds in the village during the past year along with window boxes and the Man- chester Garden. HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY Mrs. Dorothy Grange presided for the ' annual • meeting of the Auburn Horticultural Society held last Tuesday af- ternoon in the Com- munity Memorial Hall. Coffee- -and cookies --wer-e--- the coming celebration fo'r - Auburn's birthday party and a committee to plan a float for the parade were named: Mrs. Frances Clark, Stewart Ball, Ross Robinson, Mrs, Maurice Bean and Mrs. Gordon Dobie. Flower baskets for the streets have been ordered and as yellow and green were the ' colors named for the Auburn colors, this color scheme will be worked into the floral decorations. James Towe was ap- pointed to see if the Auburn and District Lions Club would assist in providing benches or seats to be placed in different parts of the village for the senior citizens and others to use. Orders for white and Norway spruce trees were taken and anyone wishing for any spring planting, please contact Mrs. Bradnock. The Red Maple was chosen as a special tree to served by Mrs. Grange, Mrs. Thomas Haggitt and Mrs. Eleanor Bradnock. Mrs. Grange opened the meeting by welcoming everyone and reading a poem, Spring Tiptoed Through the Town Last Night. - The minutes were approved as read by the secretary, Mrs. Thomas Haggitt. The roll call was called and members answered by naming a vegetable or plant they would like to try and grow this season. After several items of business, plans were made for the March 5 meeting at 8 p.m. when a speaker will be present to talk on flowers to grow for the 125th celebrations in the village flower beds. Several ac- tivities had to be can- celled until a later time. Tiger Dunlop Women's Institute meeting had to be cancelled and will be held Thursday, February 8 in Colborne Township Hall at 1:45 p.m. with Mrs. Phyllis Pitblado giving a talk on health. To attend to important items of business, a good at- tendance is hoped for. The euchre card party to be held Thursday evening also had' to be cancelled and will be held Thursday, February 8 at 8 p.m. weather per- mitting in Colborne Township Hall. Admissionis 75 cents, ladies please bring lunch. This is under the auspices of the Colborne Recreation committee. 4-H The 4-H project will be "Accessories, Their Final Touch". SOCIAL NEWS The community is sorry to report that Ken Frisby suffered a heart attack on Christmas day and was a patient for a short time in Clinton Hospital. From there, he went to Victoria Hospital in London. He was home for a short while and is now a patient in Clinton Hospital again. His many friends wish him a speedy recovery. Mrs. Viola Armstrong of Detroit is visiting her sister, Mr. and Mrs. Terence Hunter. The sympathy of the community is extended to the family Jf the late Ira Oke of Goderich who was born in Colborne township.
