Are you feeling that the
January blahs are here to
stay -- forever? Are you
feeling that nothing
exciting ever happens to
you?
What you need then, is
some high adventure and
Captain Cornet recom-
mends the Goderich
Public Library as the
place to find it! Pirates,
treasure, and mystery
abound in The Hand of
Robin Squires.
Joan Clark, who comes
from Nova Scotia,
weaves a suspenseful tale
around the Oak Island
puzzle. First discovered
in 1795, the main shaft or
"Money Pit" 'has foiled
all those who have come
to explore its secrets.
Robin Squires, a young
boy growing up in
England, tells of his
father's and uncle's
secretive engineering
project in North
America. Only after
Robin joins his uncle does
he learn his uncle is a
pirate!
What is buried on Oak
Island? Who put it there?
How was it done? Be a
part of Robin's daring
and close escape from
Oak Island treachery. '
The past was... full of., -
thrills for young people.
You can meet Meg, 13,
and John, 14, in Shan-
tymen of Cache Lake by
Bill Freeman. They
decide to support the
family by working in a
lumber camp near
Ottawa a hundred years
ago.
They soon learn what
it's like to be completely
alone in the wilderness
without family or friends
except for the tough
lumbermen who draw
them into fights and
danger. This book is
extra -special because it
won the Canada Council
Award for Juvenile
Literature in 1976.
Just when you think
Meg and John are safely
on their way home they
run into more problems
in The Last Voyage of the
Scotian. Not only are they
kidnapped aboard a
windjammer bound for
Jamaica, but the ship
very nearly sinks on the
return trip!
Can you imagine being
chained to the hold with
rats scuttling about your
feet? ` Meg and John
endure this•-,143nd, more
until they reach Safety.
You won't be able to put
any of these books down
and when you do you'll be
thankful' times have
changed . for you ,in .this.
