basketball team
remained undefeated in
Huron -Perth Conference
play here last Thursday,
defeating St. Marys 57 - 21
for their fifth straight
conference victory.

given their trophies. Saturday. The competition was

Defensively, the
Vikings played
aggressively, stealing the
ball on many occasions.
The offence exhibited
good shot selection and
their shooting percentage
was high.
Saturday the midget
Vikings won a pair of
exhibition games in
Sarnia, beating Sarnia
Collegiate 88 - 14 and
edging Sarnia St. Clair 41
- 40.
The victory over SCITS
was especially gratifying
to. coach Myles Murdoch
and his Vikings since they
had lost an earlier err
counter with Sarnia
Collegiate 51-41 in early
December. That was the
only loss suffered by the
Vikings this season so
they went into Saturday's.
game seeking revenge.
The Vikings came up with
a tremendous team effort
defensively and that
coupled with an:explosive
fast break offence
swamped the Sarnia
swamped the Sarnia
crew.
Chris Pitre. with 24
points and Ben Melick
with 13 had strong games
for the Vikings. Kevin
Adams chipped in with
eight points. Karl Kroh -
Bridge
scares
Auleen• Curry and Jean
Papernick combined for
a point total of 106 to win
top honors in the North-
South section of play at
the January 16 meeting of
the Goderich Bridge
Club. There were eight
tables in play.
Cathy. MacDonald and
Pat Stringer were second
with 891/2 points and John
Donatis and John Wood
finished with 87 points.
Joanne Duckworth and
Lee Ryan topped •the
East-West section with
911/2 points and were
followed by Mary Don-
nelly and Eleanor
Erskine with 89 points

The Vikes started strong,
running up a 12point lead

in the first quarter but
this dwindled to seven
(24-17) at halftime and St.
Clair went ahead in the
third quarter and held a
four point lead with less
than two minutes left in
the game.
Baskets by Chris Pitre
and Kevin Adains tied the
score and Karl Krohmer
threw in a foul shot with
23 seconds seconds remaining to
give Goderich the vic-
tory.
Ben Melick had 10
points for the Vikings
while Pitre had nine. Rob
Plunkett with six, 'Kroh -
mer with five, Dave
MacDonald and Scott
Bell with four each and
Kevin Adams with three
points were other Viking
point -getters.
