A Happy New Year to
all.
Auburn celebrated the
start of its 125th birthday
on New Year's Eve with a
large dance sponsored by
Auburn and District
Lions Club with President
Bud Chamney and
members assisting.
After midnight, a "large
' barbecued pig was
carried in and in view of
all, Sam Beadle donned
his white apron and cut
up the pig onto platters.
Colorful hats and horns
brought in the New Year
and all enjoyed the pork,
scalloped .potatoes,
salads, etc.
This year - 1979 - the
village of Auburn will
celebrate its 125th bir-
thday of the first survey
of .- the village of Man-
chester in 1854. and also
the opening of the first
post office and the first
school.
Manchester, now called
Auburn, has a very
colourful history since
Eneas Elkin, the -first
Irish immigrant, came to
take up land in this area.
He was the great-
grandfather of Bill
Robertson who was very
active in many of the
activities this past year.
Mr. . Elkin made the
survey of the Hullett side
of the village.
It is hoped that more
people will assist the
various committees and
make the celebration one
to be remembered.
Meetings have been held
monthly since 1977. in
November.
