The Swedish team will meet their hosts and then be taken on an escorted tour off the town. They will then be entertained at a buffet Bantams lose to Durham 7-3 in tourney BY DAVE SYKES The Goderich Lakeport Steel Bantams won two of four games in tour- nament, league and exhibition play. The Steelers won, one game and lost one inthe Kincardine Winter Games tournament, defeated Belmant in exhib Han p 1 a y_and lost.to Walkerton in a league game, Saturday. At - the Kincardine tournament the Steelers aefeated Walkerton 7-5 in overtime but then lost teir second game to Durham 7-3. In the first game the Bantams trailed Walkerton 3-0 at one point but rallied for three goals to tie the game and send it into overtime. In overtime the game was decided by penalty shots and Goderich outscored Walkerton 4-2-. The Steelers were little match for Durham in the second game as they fell behind 6-2 after two periods of play and lost the game, 7-3. Mustangs to play in Clinton rink By Bryan Marriage The Clinton Mustangs, fresh after a narrow victory in Port Elgin 6-5 last weekend, will finally get a chance to play in their own rink in front of their own fans this Friday night. For the first time this season, the Stangs will play host to the team they have to beat for a run at the top, the Listowel Cyclones. Last weekend they, proved they can handle the Port Elgin Bears, as they have now beaten the Bears four times in four meetings this year. Tim McLean led the Mustangs to the narrow victory with a three goaF game and notched a pair of _ assists also. Dave -Stephenson -also had a pair of goals for the locals and Paul Helesic added a single. The Mustangs opened up a three goal first period lead on the Bears and then allowed the Bears to tie the score with three goals in the second period. -ffie third period was a see -saw battleas the Bears went ahead at the four ' minute mark and' then the Sta.ngs tied it up at the half -way mark. Both teams scored Once again in the next three minutes before McLean got the 'Winner, a.. short- handed effort at 18:22 of the third period to finish off the Bears. • The Stangs also. have a home game Sunday night at 7_ p.m. when they play. host to the Walkerton Black Hawks. Merchants edge Thedford 6-5, BY DAVE SYKES - The Goderich Mer- chants won their final game of 1978 as they dumped Thedford 6-5 in Intermediate C play in Thedford, December 28. Al Hamilton pdced the Merchants with two goals while team-mates Frank Hagan, Barry Bloch, Phil Petrie and Phil 'Paquette added The Merchants held a 2- 1 lead after the first period of play and were never able to hold more than a one -goal ad- vantage as they led 4-3 after two periods- and hung on'for the 6-5 win. — p.m. contest at the Goderich and District Community Centre. Durham scored three straight goals in the first period of that game and held a 3-1 lead after one period. Goderich held a 2-1 lead after the first period of play on goals by •Colin Alexander and Jim Mathers who scored with one second remaining in the period. the teams played scoreless through the second period and Paul Day scored the winning goal for Goderich late in the final period. Belmont got back into the game with a goal in n. the final minute of play but were unable to notch the trying goal. Walerton got revenge _oft Goderich in__league „play Saturday with a 2-0 win over the Steelers in_a game played in Goderich. Goderich had defeated Walkerton in the Kin- cardine tournament , but the visitors turned the tables with single goals in the second and third period to record the shutout. The teams played through a scoreless firs period before Jeff Davidson broke the scoreless deadlock with Sailors dropfift The Goderich Sailors continued their skid in the OHA Intermediate C league 'losing their fifth straight game to Wingham December 29, f.;y a 6-0 score. Goderich rebounded with goals by Hamilton and Bloch befOre the end of the period to regain their one -goal lead. ,Each team scored two gd'als in the final period with Paquette and Petrie scoring for Goderich._ Thedford pulled to withip one goal of the Merchants' with eight minutes left in the game but were unable to score the tying goal. Following the game, the teams will attend a reception in the arena auditorium before the Swedish team leaves to return to their Ontario base in Midland.
