team will meet their
hosts and then be taken

town. They will then be

Bantams lose to Durham 7-3 in tourney

The Goderich Lakeport
Steel Bantams won two of
four games in tour-
nament, league and
exhibition play.
The Steelers won, one
game and lost one inthe
Kincardine Winter
Games tournament,
defeated Belmant in
exhib Han p 1 a y_and lost.to
Walkerton in a league
game, Saturday.
At - the Kincardine
tournament the Steelers
aefeated Walkerton 7-5 in
overtime but then lost
teir second game to
Durham 7-3.
In the first game the
Bantams trailed
Walkerton 3-0 at one point
but rallied for three goals
to tie the game and send
it into overtime. In
overtime the game was
decided by penalty shots
and Goderich outscored
Walkerton 4-2-.
The Steelers were little
match for Durham in the
second game as they fell
behind 6-2 after two
periods of play and lost
the game, 7-3.
Mustangs to play
in Clinton rink

The Clinton Mustangs,
fresh after a narrow
victory in Port Elgin 6-5
last weekend, will finally
get a chance to play in
their own rink in front of
their own fans this Friday
night.
For the first time this
season, the Stangs will
play host to the team they
have to beat for a run at
the top, the Listowel
Cyclones.
Last weekend they,
proved they can handle
the Port Elgin Bears, as
they have now beaten the
Bears four times in four
meetings this year. Tim
McLean led the Mustangs
to the narrow victory
with a three goaF game
and notched a pair of
_ assists also.
Dave -Stephenson -also
had a pair of goals for the
locals and Paul Helesic
added a single.
The Mustangs opened
up a three goal first
period lead on the Bears
and then allowed the
Bears to tie the score with
three goals in the second
period.
-ffie third period was a
see -saw battleas the
Bears went ahead at the
four ' minute mark and'
then the Sta.ngs tied it up
at the half -way mark.
Both teams scored Once
again in the next three
minutes before McLean
got the 'Winner, a.. short-
handed effort at 18:22 of
the third period to finish
off the Bears.
• The Stangs also. have a
home game Sunday night
at 7_ p.m. when they play.

Merchants edge
Thedford 6-5,

The Goderich Mer-
chants won their final
game of 1978 as they
dumped Thedford 6-5 in
Intermediate C play in
Thedford, December 28.
Al Hamilton pdced the
Merchants with two goals
while team-mates Frank
Hagan, Barry Bloch, Phil
Petrie and Phil 'Paquette
added
The Merchants held a 2-
1 lead after the first
period of play and were
never able to hold more
than a one -goal ad-
vantage as they led 4-3
after two periods- and
hung on'for the 6-5 win. —

Durham scored three
straight goals in the first
period of that game and
held a 3-1 lead after one
period. Again in
the second period they
scored three straight
goals before Goderich
again scored to narrow
the margin to 6-2. Each
team scored once in the
final period.

The Goderich Sailors
continued their skid in the
OHA Intermediate C
league 'losing their fifth
straight game to
Wingham December 29,
f.;y a 6-0 score.
The loss -to Wingham
was the _fifth straight in
•league play and they will
•be looking to turn their
fortunes around when
they host Milverton next
Friday in an 8:30 p.M.

periods but were unable

one -goal lead.

Thedford pulled to withip
one goal of the Merchants'
with eight minutes left in
the game but were unable
to score the tying goal.
The Merchants next
game is Monday January
8 when they will host
