Society
meets
The Goderich Branch
of the Canadian Bible
Society held its meeting
at the home off Mrs. R.H.
Cornish, Brock Street,
Thursday, October 26.
The District Secretary,
the . Reverend D.L.
Howlett, was in at-
tendance. Also present
were the President, Bill
McNaughton, the
Reverend R. Ashton,
Edna Stephens, Mary
Morris, Bill Barwick and
D. Croft.
The treasurer's report
showed that $2,683.66 had
been received from the
recent canvass'and $T,272
had been raised in the
bike-a-thon.
The proceeds from the
bike-a-thon are helping to
fund Eskimo translations
in the Central and Copper
dialects, while the
proceeds from the can-
vass will be used to help
publish scriptures in over
300 languages. The
requests for Scriptures is
unprecedented in the --
long 174 year history of
the Bible Society. The
sole purpose of the Bible
Society is to translate,
publish and distribute
God's Word in the
language of the people.
The three who raised
the most money for the
recent bike-a-thon were
Kase _ Vanden Heuvel,
Shawn Rahbek, and
Mavis Fisher. These
participants each
received a bible in ap-
preciation for their ef-
forts. The society would
also like to thank all the
other people who took
part in this event.
Next year being the
75th anniversary of the
Canadian Bible Society
and the 175th anniversary
of the World Society, a
special evening is being
planned for May 23, 1979
with the Reverend R.
Rumball of Willowdale as
guest speaker. Local
talent will also be par-
ticipating in this special
event.
At the close of the
meeting the Reverend
Howlett showed pictures
of the Bible Society work
among the Eskimos.
Dear Captain Comet: My

Victoria School. I belong
to the Goderich
Majorettes, and also take
highland dancing lessons.
With Love, Christine.
Tarra Brindley, R.R. 6

years old today,
November 2. Tarra is the
daughter of Ted and
Joanne Brindley.
