Repent bring forgiveness
BY THE REVEREND
G. CLAIR SAMS,
BIBLE MISSIONARY
CHURCH, GODERICH •
As responsible human
beings, we all are brought
to the realization in life of
a personal responsibility
concerning the soul.
Ezekiel brings this
point into very clear view
in chapter 33:14-15 when
he says, "Again, when I
say unto the wicked, thou
shalt surely die; if he
turns from his sin, and do
that which is lav'ful and
right, If the -...wicked.
restore the pledge, give
again that he had robbed,
walk in the statues of life,
without committing
iniquity, he shall surely
live and not die. None of
his sins that he hath
committed shall be
mentioned unto him: He
hath done that which is
lawful and right; he shall
surely live."
You can see the full
delivery of guilt or
responsibility on the
individual.
There are a number of
ways you can approach
the subject of your
personal eternal
responsibility. You can
do as Israel, turn from
The Biblical description
is, where there is a law,
there is possibility for sin.
Sin is to break a known
law of God. If you are
honest with yourself, you
can remember in
childhood the first pangs
or realization of wrong.
That is the lack or lost-
ness that accompanies
sin or breaking ,.,God's
laws. You ought to thank
God he has made you
aware of, your condition
for to continue on in
wickedness and sin is
sure death-, spiritually
and eternally.
But friend there is
hope. We read, ". . .if he
turn from his sin, and do
that which is lawful and
right .. " or as we know in
the Christian Life, lo
repent.
Repentance is a very
necessary part of
spirituality. It involves a
Godly sorrow for sin, for
the scripture mentions
that "Godly sorrow
worketh repentance".
This includes not only
sorrow but fruit of the
sort that speaks in life
and action of turning
from wickedness. There
is not only the -,region of
repentance but also the
God -and then -blame -him reason forthe•same.--- ---
Why must you repent?
There is no other path to
God or spiritual life. No
other way to be free from
the penalty of broken law
which requires punish-
ment.
Repentance then brings
forgiveness for sin
committed, freedom
from penalty for sin and
promise of eternal life.
The reality of repentance
is seen in scripture as
well as in life today.
Peter sorrowed,
repented and was
restored. He enjoyed
forgiveness from Christ.
%,On the other hand,
Judas made a start at
repentance but ap-
parently was not sorry
and' no change was ef-
fected.
Balaam said "I have
sinned"; Saul admitted
sin, but neither man was
sorrowful or serious in his
confession, therefore
there was no salvation.
David admitted sin and
sorrowfully repented
admitting his own un-
worthiness and he en-
joyed restoration.
for your condition or you
may ignore your spiritual
need with light living and
insignificant issues. You
may be one who knows
you have spiritual lack
but delay obeying God
until it is too late. Or you
could be as a few, see
your need and find the.
needed remedy.
Notice God spoke to
Ezekiel not only of
responsibility of the soul
but also of the remedy to
a lost soul. You say, I
don't believe that there is
a lost soul for God is too
good to allow one to be
lost! Then you are ,saying
either you don't know IIis
Book or that you believe
God to be better than His
Book.
Ezekiel mentions the
realization of need:
"Again when I say unto
the wicked, thou shalt
surely die."
That thought brings us
to an awareness.
Throughout the
scriptures the thought is
borne out, "When there is
sin, there is death".
What is sin you ask?
Block that snow!
Proper positioning of,
trees or conventional
snow fences, provides
effective snow control for
Ontario farm lanes, says
F. H. Theakston, School
of Engineering,
University of Guelph.
Snow fences can be
erected now, but it's late
to plant trees this year.
"Install three rows of
snow fences on the
laneway's windward side
for best results. Place the
first fence 18 m from the
laneway, and the others
the same distance
apart."
Fences are an excellent
short-term solution, he
says, but trees provide
permanent snow control.
Next spring, close -
plant two rows of coni-
ferous trees on the
1'aneway's windward
side. Plant the first row
18 in from the laneway,
and the second row 1.2 m
further back. Deciduous
trees are ineffective
because they lose foliage
in the fall.
"When the trees have
grown to a height of three
m they will keep most
snow from the lane. Even
before they reach that
height, the trees reduce
the force of the wind."
Where possible,
position fences or trees to
block prevailing north-
westerly winds.
Farmers may obtain
additional snow control
information, free -of -
charge, by writing to
Professor Theakston.
Send him a sketch of your
farmstead, and describe
ybur. snow control
problems.

Notice also the
necessity of restitution
involved in - forgiveness.
He said ". . if the wicked
restore the pledge ..."
Restitution is enjoined
throughout the Word oaf
God. We read, "for he
shall make full
restoration", again "I
will repay four fold".
There are examples in
both Old and New
Testaments "of this great
principle of spiritual life.
Zacchaeus, at his
conversion, vowed to
Christ that he would
repay plus for all that had
been dishonestly
received.
Helping Hands
greet guests
The members of the
Helping Hands met at the
residence of Mr. and Mrs.
J.H. Johnstone on
Thursday, October 19.
Guests present at the
meeting were Mrs. Nora
Fitzsimmons, Mrs.
Charles Stokes and Mrs.
H.F. Carroll.
The meeting was
opened by the secretary -
treasurer reading the
Scripture. A special
prayer for those whom
the group works for, was
given by Mrs. Carroll.
Every guest and member
gave a reading and then
the motto, "Others", was
sung in unison`.
Mrs. C. Baechler read
the minutes of the last
meeting. They were
approved as read.
Everyone sang a verse of
the theme song, "The
Lova?"° of-'""G"od MPT
Johnstone, the president,
then closed in prayer.
A social time was held
and winners were
presented with gifts.
Mrs. Stokes presented
Mrs. Carroll with the sum
of money the members
had saved during the
year for her special
people.
Door prizes were given
out and with the singing
of "Abide With Me",the
meeting was brought to a
close.
David paid four fold for
the murder of Uriah.
Exper ,ence tells us the
necessity of restoration of
stolen things money and
renewing of vows. Your
conscience will never be
clear before God until you
restore as publicly as you
removed that which was
not yours. It will also help
your influence.
Such care in repen-
tance and restitution will
result'; in righteousness
which is required of God.
Such living means to live
virtuously and behave
justly. It requires in daily
life, true uprightness.
God requires you to live
up to your own con-
viction. This is life above
self-righteousness. You
must be right in God's
sight. It is not what others
say of you but what is
God's testimony. He
expects Godliness not
selfishness. Paul said,
"not I but Christ that
liveth in me".
The results of such
living bring redemption.
Ezekiel said, "He shall
surely live".,
"By redemption is
meant the recovery of
mankind from sin and
death, , b,y_ the -obedience
and- sacrifice 'of Jesus
Christ." (Benney)
Redemption carries
with it forgiveness of sin,
the blessed privilege of
sonship and eternal life.
Therefore, the conclusive
point is that through
realization, repentance.
and restoration, there is
experienced the joys of
righteous living through
new life in Christ plus the
benefit of eternal
redemption by and with
Him.
