Legion poppy camp
This year November 4
to 11 marks Poppy Week
and Goderich Legion
Branch 109 mon v
chairman Howard
Carroll, has stated that
plans are now complete
for the Legion poppy
canvass, the church
parade and the service of
remembrance at the
cenotaph in Court House
park.
Organizations and
business concerns have
been contacted
requesting their support
1,0 of the poppy fund by
either the purchase of a
wreath or a donation. The
poppy chairman reported
that he expects the usual
favorable response.

"It's all turned out to be
a little bigger than I
thought," admits Mrs.
Crawford. "When I first
moved out to the garage,
I thought it was just the
right size but it wasn't".
It wasn't long before
the Crawfords added onto
.-- garage to build a
shop. They completed the
final addition just this
past summer and hope to
hold an open house in a
few weeks. The shop is
open from 10 a.m. to 5
p.m. on Tuesdays to
Fridays and from 10 a.m.
to 2 p.m. on Saturdays.
Mrs. Crawford doesn't
have too much in the way
of finished products right
now although she
eventually hopes to set uji
a little craft corner in the
shop featuring her work
when she can. She sells
supplies such as paints,
stains, brushes, cleaning
tools, -etc. gives advice
and does custom orders.
She has three kilns of
various sizes which her
in for lessons or find
supplies for them in the
city whenever she can.
She has quite a few
students who work at
home and bring their
pieces in for advice or to
be fired only.
Mrs. Crawford's-
ceta mics hobby has
turned into more than a
business. It has also
turned into a family
business. Her husband
pours all the molds and
looks, after them, a very
time-consuming chore.
He also wires all the
ceramic lamps made by
students and he helps' his
wife shop for supplies.
The Crawfords' two sons
are away from home now
but their two daughters
are still in high school
and they help out in the
shop when they can too.
As Mrs. Crawford gets
more "side -walk"
business flow, she finds it
more difficult to get to the
city for supplies and to
make her own pieces. She
enjoys knitting,
crocheting and making
quilt
"Any craft that seems
to be going,. I'll get into,"
she says. But she finds •
she doesn't have as much
time for other crafts any
more.
The idea of a ceramics
shop is fairly new in
Goderich, thinks Mrs.
Crawford and she feels it.
is growing in popularity.
A lot of people like to do
ceramics but no one had'
%ally considered getting
into a ceramics business,
she says.
"We turn out a lot of "
stuff," says Mr.
Crawford. "A lot of
people don't even know
we exist yet. But you
have to creep before you
can walk."
The Crawfords should
be on their feet pretty
soon.
