Monday that the
Goderich Merchants are
not a tear to be taken
lightly. ..
Parkhi1J won the game,
their firsp of the season,
but needed three straight
goals in the final three
minutes of the game to
break a 2-2 tie against the
pesky Goderiehl ssluad.
The loss was the first of
the- season for the Mer-
chants, who opened the
season with a pair off
victories over Centralia.

Parkhill replied with three unanswered goals to win the game 5-2

Peewees lose opening game
The Goderich Lions,
Pee Wees finished their
pie-season,exhibition
schedule wita 6-2 vic-
tory over Wingham here
Saturday, but lost the
opening game of their
WOAA "BB" regular
schedule, 5-4, in Port
Elgin Sunday.
The victory over
Wingham gave the Lions
three wins in four
exhibition starts.
Wingham . drew first
blood when Doug Wood
scored on a shot from just
inside the blueline
in the
first period. The Lions
came back with three
goals in the second
period, two of them off
the stick of Paul Brenner.
Daryl Madge, David Day
and Shawn Rahbek
picked up assists. John
Thompson's unassisted
goal gave the Lions a 3-1
edge going into the third
period.
Cameron Brett
narrowed the margin to 3-
2 with a goal for
Wingham four minutes
into the third period, but
the Lions replied with
three more of their own to
make the final score 6-2.
Trevor Erb scored on a
pass" from John Thom-
pson "'and Daryl Madge
beat Mitchell Browrl in
the Wingham net with a
hard shot from the left
side. Paul Brenner
finished off the scoring
with his third goal of the
night, a deflection of a
shot by John Thompson.
In Port Elgin, both
teams provided good
solid two way hockey in a
see -saw battle.
Port Elgin led 2-1 at the
end of the first period on
goals by Stu Laird and
Paul Keating. John
Thompson scored the
Goderich goal, assisted
by linemates Daryl
Madge and Paul Brenner.

Todd Chappell gave
Port Elgin a 3-1 lead
early in the second and
then. the Lions scored
twice to tie the score.
Thompson from Madge
and Brenner from Madge
and Thompson were the
Goderich scoring plays.
Bob Carr's goal gave
Port 4 4-3 lead before the
period ended.
Daryl, 1 Madge tied the
game on an unassisted
effort in the fifth minute
of play in the final frame,
but Carr came back less
than a minute later to
beat Randy Gaynor on
the short side with the
winning goal. The Lions
had the better scoring
chances in the remaining

last Wednesday, 7-5 in
Centralia.

the Centralia win scoring

two ,periods. Greg
Ha-nsen, Phil Petrie,
Dave Graf and Lenny
Kolkman scored one goal
apiece for Goderich.
Goderich held a 3-2 lead.
after the first period of
play and increased that
margin to 6-3 after two
periods. Centralia fought
back with two straight
goals in the final period to
narrow the Merchant
lead : to a singlegoal
before Kolkman scored
the insurance mater
with less than four
minutes to play.

minutes of the' game and
Parkhill finally broke the
tie with a goal at 16.43 of
the final period. They
then added two more
goals in the final minute
to clinch a 5-2 victory.
The Merchantsreturn
to action this Sunday in
Zurich at 2 p.m. and the
next home game will be
Monday November 6 in
the Goderich and District
Community Centre
against Thedford. Game
time is 8:30 p.m.
