There will be an election for reeve this year as Finlay MacDonald, former deputy -reeve, is challenging Reeve Warren Zinn who has held the position for four years. John Austin has been acclaimed deputy -reeve to replace MacDonald and incumbents Allan Gibson and Grant Farrish sit on council by acclamation. Grant Curran will be the fourth member of council, sitting by acclamation to fill the vacancy left by Austin's move to deputy - reeve, Candidate MacDonald said he is not running for reeve because he holds any dislike for Reeve Zinn. On the contrary, he and Zinn are "the -best of friends.” Finlay said he has been on council for nine years and "I don't want to sit there forever." He said he wants to move up. "It is a custom in Ash- field to work your way up," said MacDonald. He added that he .feels 'confident he can handle the position. The candidate for reeve said he was keeping an eye on the outcome of this project because Ashfield has erosion problems along some of its lakefront property. Zinn agreed with MacDonald that council should take their time because the more often you work on the plan the better you understand it and sometimes you change your point of view about a part of it. "There is a wide diversion of people in the township," said Zinn, "and we want everyone to be satisfied with it." Ashfield's plan will be different, he added, because of the diversion of interest in the town- ship. told the ratepayers that there is". no extra funds expected this year for tile drainage loans as in the past when additional funds were allocated through the year. (Ethel) Green and son Peter of Sarnia visited with relatives and friends in Goderich and Colborne Township on Monday. Mr. and. Mrs. Eric Reaburn had ' a very happy Thanksgiving home -• coming this year when their entire family were home to celebrate their mother's birthday and Thanksgiving at the same time, and for some the holiday season lasted a bit longer. The Reaburn children are growing up and some are scattered across Canada. Their daughter Janice left after Thanksgiving for an extended trip along the East Coast; their daughter Maureen, husband Joe and baby, Will Reaburn Griffin, were home from North Vancouver. Also son Jim was • home from Van- couver; and son Steve and wife, Bernie Reaburn were home from London. Their son, Earl is at- tending McGill University in Montreal. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Hoover and daughter Vivian Gregory have returned to their home in Lacombe, Alberta after spending two weeks visiting relatives and friends in and around Goderich. Mrs. Hoover is ' a sister of Mrs. Lilian Tutner of Goderich. Mrs. Pearl Watson returned home last week after spending over four weeks in Belleville. She was visiting her gran- ddaughter and husband, Debbie and Steve Waller.
