organizations that have

to agree that if she had
her time better

usually find herself
bogged down on any

In fact, Sharon said she

Sharon told the
can't always concentrate
in class and finds that in
the peace of her own
study area at home, she
can learn much more. .
Teachers too, com-
plained that too many
things are being crowded
into their days at school,
cutting back the number
of hours of actual
teaching time.
Homework becomes an
essential thing if students
are to learn all the things
they should in a given
year.
Just a little aside.
Imagine my surprise
Monday when I walked
into the seminar to find
that one of the teachers
seated there was a for-
mer classmate of mine
from South Huron
District fligh School
where I went to school.
We looked at each other
for a moment or two -
each thinking the other
looked familiar. And
then, recognition.
Funny thing, Of all the
boys in my class in those
days, he was the least
likely t becothe a school
teacher in my books. And
a French teacher?
During our coffee
break, I had a talk -with
another guy who was a
classmate. He, of course,
knew of our mutual
acquaintance teaching
French in the Huron
, -
County ystem. That set
the stage for some heavy
remembering - but un-
fortunately, just like 30
years ago, we were all
called away to class.
You know, I'll bet that
French teacher buddy of
mine is finding it just as
hard to believe that I'm
editing a newspaper
these days. The in-
credulous look he gave
me when I told him what IQ
was doing gave him
away.
Its time for another
class reunion I think. It's
time I got caught up on
the lives of the fellows
and gals who formed my
peer group when I was 16.

The Ontario
Legislature recently
unanimously approved a
resolution authored by
Mickey Hennessy,
MP-PFotWilhiam,
that asks the Ontario
government° to introduce
legislation to provide
income benefits to the
families of policemen,
fire-fighters ' and
correctional guards who
are killed on duty. "
"The fob" of a police
officer, a firefighter or a
correctional guard is
distinct from that of most
other employees"
Hennessy said.
"The. nature of his work
exposes him daily to
activities that potentially
endanger his life."
. Hennessy stated- that
-most occuiPations which
are exposed .to. daily
occupational hazards are
already covered to some
degree by a pension plan
through their respective
work group.
"But in many cases,"
added the Deputy
Government Whip, "if
the worker is killed at an
early stage in his career,
the compensation that the
family •receives is
minimal when compared
to the salary they were
receiving before the
worker was killed."
Hennessy told the
Legislature that in the
case of a correctional
service guard or an
Ontario Provincial Police
officer,if he should be
killed on duty before he
has completed ten years
of service, his family
would receive the same
benefits offered any civil
servant.
"The shocking element
here is the small sum of
the benefits" he said.
