These five students won special awards for various subjects at GDCI last
year. They were honored Friday evening at the annual commencement
exercises. They are (back row, left to 'right) Janet Young who won the
Signal -Star award to the student with the highest net typing speed in Year 4
Communications and Business Procedures; Cathy Wisser who was awarded
the Eastern Star award for a Year 4 student who is accepted for registration
at an institution of higher learning; (front row, left to right) Robin Campion
who won the Town of Goderich award given annually to a deserving student
with high scholastic standing who has completed Year 5 and' who is
registered in an institution of higher learning, and the Goderich Lions Club
award- to a -deserving Year 5 student who has studied successfully a Year 5
subject in -Canadian Studies; Nelson Petersen who won the Rotarians' Music
scholarship and Dorothy Culbert who won the Signal -Star award for the
highest final marks in Year 4 Communication and Business Procedures.

Many stridents were honored Friday evening at the annual commencement
exercises at GDCI. Among those who were singled out for awards were
(back row, left to right) Andrew Stoll who was the rural winner of the R. D.
Munro Scholarship awarded to a student who has specialized in. commercial
or technical subjects and has registered in an institution of higher learning;
Jon Barz, who was awarded the Canadian Chemical Workers' Union (Local
1$) award to' a deserving student who has successfully completed Year 4
Economics and the W. H. Robertson scholarship for having the highest
marks in Year 3 and ,4 English; Keith McLellan who had the highest marks
at GDCI in the Descartes Mathematics contest; David Best who took the A.
M. Robert on award for mathematics and science; and Donald Coughlan
who won the Peter .Adamson Memorial scholarship for Year 4 and the
highest marks at GDCI in the Euclid Mathematics contest; (front row, left
to right) Cheryl Harrison who won the urban student R. D. Munro
scholarship; Anne Marie Howard who won the Robert MacKay Memorial
Scholarship for Year 5 and the William Cutt Memorial Scholarship for
achieving the highest marks in two languages, other than English in Years 4
and 5; and Paula Butler who won the A. J. Moore Memorial Scholarship and
