BY THE REVEREND ALFRED FRY (RETIRED) The Bible clearly states in the third chapter of the Gospel of St. John, verse 16, that "God The Father, the giver and sustainer of all life, so loved the people whom He created, that He gave His only begotten. Son, that whosoever believeth in Him, should not perish but would have everlasting life. _ This . promise. -does not call for an academic sermon as it is self- explanatory, but what does "believe" mean? It does not mean to "hope for the best". The Church. worker. dies at 93 On Monday, September 11, Mrs. Margaret Erratt passed away in Huron - view in her 94th year. She was the daughter of the late Edward Robinson and Annie Orr and lived the early part of her life on the Goshen Line, Stanley Township. In 1905 she married Samuel J. Erratt who predeceased her in 1908. After the death of her son Edgar, she trained as a Deaconess in the United Church. Aftergraduation in 1917, she served in Vancouver, Edmonton, Muncey Indian School, Hamilton and Toronto. She retired after almost 50 years of dedicated work for her church and lived at Park - wood Manor, Waterloo for five years. She is survived by one brother, the Rev. Wm. Robinson of Goderich and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, September 13 from Westlake Funeral Home, Zurich with the Rev. A Taylor officiating. Interment was in Bayfield Cemetery. Six nephews were pallbearers - Doug Robinson, Wm. Robinson, Geo. Stephenson, Elmore Stephenson, Frank McClinchey and Bruce McClinchey. The 'flower bearers were Geo. Anderson, Wm. Taylor, Allen Hayter and Ray McClinchey. Mrs. Newt Richardson, Wallaceburg; Miss Tori McDonald, Waterloo; Paul Schaefer, Toronto; Mrs. Cathie Richardson, Guelph; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Desmond, Mrs. Frances King' and Mrs. Margaret . The name for that is "fatalism". And it cer- tainly does not mean to believe in what we know to be untrue. For that is nothing else but "ab- surdity". How can we best describe or define it? We place trust in Jesus Christ in two ways. First, -by" accepting Him. Let us turn to the last book in the Bible where Jesus says, "Behold I stand" at the door and knock, if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him and will sup with him". (Rev. 3-20) We picture Jesus standing at the door of a house, patiently knocking and waiting to be ad- mitted. We can also think of Him standing outside the door of our heart. Oh how often has He waited seeking admission but we keep Him outside. I am sure that many Ministers will agree with me that many times in our ministry when making a house call, some people would meet us at the door, but because they were busy or had company, they did not invite us to come in. Some would -invite us into the litring room where we could sit and chat- At times we might get into the kitchen and have a snack or coffee. .You might even get asked by the man of the house to come down into the basement to see his workshop At times you might be asked upstairs to see the lovely fur- nished and freshly painted rooms. ,But one room we were never invited to enter was the attic. Perhaps they felt that this was not important because they know how untidy and messy it can be and this would shame them. This reminds us that our bodies are houses also. In this house are our minds, hearts, wills, memories, appetites and into this house of ours we find Jesus seeking ad- mittance. So, some people allow Jesus to come as far as the door. He is treated in a rude manner, recognition? (Yes) but a quick dismissal. Others allow Jesus into the living room where He can discuss with ,them their problems. Others invite Him into the kitchen This Sunday October 1st. gat 8 p. N o S SS oaM coo 440 • SPECIAL MUSIC WILL BE PROVIDED HURON MEN'S CHAPEL. AUBURN Everyone welcome "SEVEN DAYS WITHOUT BEING IN CHURCH MAKES ONE WEEK" where He ` may receive some offering at their hands. Or He may be invited into the basement where He can examine the foundation. But what about the attic where things of the past are put away, where we try to keep out of sight our mistakes and things of which we are ashamed? So then to accept Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord off our lives, is to invite Him to come into the whole of our personal lives, and clean up, rearrange and add whatever He wants. This calls for a complete surrender to the will of God in Christ. How often did we as parents, in teaching our children how to walk, stand them in the corner and hold out our hands to them saying, "Come to daddy or mummy." They would step out in faith , that we would receive them. DAVE HAYLOW ELECTRICAL Serving Industrial, Commercial, Residential Needs 524-6038. So it is with Jesus Christ. He stands outside the door saying, COME. Dear friend are you aware that Christ loves you? He gave His life for you. All the material things of life will never satisfy your soul. Christ is the only remedy for this sin sick topsy-turvey world. Have faith in Him. Trust Him now, while you have the time and the opportunity.
