The Goderich Signal-Star, 1978-09-28, Page 5}1.*• dear Reacters... *from page 4 change things for themselves or for others. But in my view, by far the majority of the people will be like I am - groping for goals, looking for new and exciting hills to climb. +f+ Ask yourself the questions I've been turning over in my mind. If I was to quit work tomorrow, what would I do to fill my hours? Would I have the resources - physically, mentally and financially - to start a new venture? Would I be willing to give up anything of what I have already acquired in order to pursue a new goal? Would I be able to pull up my roots in Huron County and set out for the. otherside •of Canada or perhaps even a new country to make a dream come true? Are my dreams really at- tainable? Should I opt for the sure thing? Or should I risk a little in the hope that I get lucky? And there are other nagging fears. What if boredom sets in? What if I am never able to settle on a new direction? What if I allow myself to vegetate - a real danger for a person like me who is basically lazy and content? What if I can just not motivate myself to get going toward a new life in retirement? I've always been a very busy person. There has never been enough hours in the day to get done all the things I am com- mitted to do. Most days I go flat out on a rigid schedule from dawn to dark. What would happen to me if I was suddenly unbusy? Would I ever be able to find again something that would really need me? Would I ever again be as happy as I am right at this moment? . +++ Sortie companies in Canada are doing things to ensure that their employees don't leave the regular work -a -day world without a plan for the future. Some companies are assisting their people to get ready for retirement. I think it is a super idea and in these days of high living costs, I think it is imperative that the planning be started early so that decisions aren't hampered by something as basic as the lack of adequate financing. In the mid -forties, I'm grappling with the realization that my career as an active mother is just about ended. Oh sure, I can look forward to weekends and holidays when the kids come home. I can even use some of the hours I used to spend with my children in writing let- ters, making telephone, calls, baking goodies for when they come. But what substitute is there for the talks we used to have that just don't happen any more? What can make up for the loss of that feeling that you are needed by your kids seven days a week, . 24 hours a day? That's what I mean by an "active mother". +++ Fortunately, I have a substitute at the present time. I have a job that takes most of the energy I have to give in a day. And I have a husband and a son and a home that need my attention, too. But I'm really looking ahead to the day now when my hours are much emptier than they are even now. And I'm beginning to ask myself, "What will I do to fill them? What will I be able to do that will give me the kind of satisfaction and happiness I've enjoyed so far?" If you have any ideas, let me know. It would be great for somebody who has the future mapped out to share some , ideas with me...and with the thousands of other people out there who are just as dubious about the future as I am. And you can bet I'll be watching the series planned by Joan Reed Olsen and the fellows from TV Ontario. We'll try to keep yoq, posted about dates and times. Eric Eastwood of Port Elgin chairman of the district handicapped persons committee outlined the formation of P.R.I.D.E". Multicap Foundation (Productive Rehabilitation and Independent Develop- ment through Employment). Established in 1977 to meet a perceived need of persons who have the potential to develop to a stage beyond the ex- tensive training received at vocational rehabilitation centres, so that they may live up to the true level of their capabilities. P.R.I.D.E. developed a IT'S OUR small shop in June 1978 at 350 Saskatoon Street in London where physically, mentally or emotionally handicapped adults work. As a start, large plastic candy canes are assembled, filled with candies and prepared for shipping and in some cases delivered to an adult by a handicapped driver. The - Lions Clubs of Multiple District A are providing the initial market for the candy cones which the members will sell in their in- dividual areas. Multiple District A covers Ontario, parts of Northern Quebec and Labrador. Letter Dear Editor: In -his dissertation "Heaven is our eternal home" the author twice quotes Jesus' words :"He that heareth MY word and 13ELIEVETH ON HIM THAT SENT ME, hath everlasting life." In order to do just that one must know who the one who sent Jesus is, would he not? So my first question is WHO SENT JESUS? He also, states: "Contrary to what is believed by many today, death does not end all. THE SOUL LIVES ON - ... Some false religionists teach otherwise. They refer to those who die as being "asleep"..." He also talks about one's anticipation as being "Based upon their faith in God's Holy Word."" God's Holy Word reads at John 11:11- - -14: "Our friend Lazarus SLEEPETH; but I go that I may wake him out of SLEEP. Then said his disciples, Lord, if he SLEEP, he shall do well. Howbeit, Jesus spake of his DEATH; but they thought that he had spoken of taking of rest in SLEEP. Then Jesus said • unto them plainly, Lazarus is DEAD. "Now, would the author classify Jesus among "sorne false religionists?" And, my concluding question: What IS the . soul? - what does the Bible say it is? In keen anticipation of BIBLE answers, not men's opinions, I remain Sin- cerely yours C.F. Bar- ney. FURNITURE REPAIR SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL A.R.C. INDUSTRIES (G.D.A.M.R.)
