The Goderich Signal-Star, 1978-09-14, Page 13Della Bedard wins flight .The official golf season is drawing to a close, but remember, so long as the weather stays nice, the course will be open for play. And what weather we are having! We can take a lot of this and not get tired of it. -... , ...T• I:,ad e. . night,-- Seeptw-5411 saw Hazel Beaver take 1st low net in 1st flight with Maxine Martin having the lowest number of putts. Edna Looker and Verna Kane tied for first low net in 2nd flight, while Bess Smith had lowest number of putts. Pat Jewell and Irla Stewart won 1st low net and putting, respectively in the 3rd flight. • Joyce Shack was 1st low net in 4th flight, putting prize being won by Bereth Jessop. Jean Knight was closest to hole on No. 1, and longest drive on No. 7 was slammed out by Verna Jackson. Wednesday, September 6th was the date of the -O ven' Sound District Ladies Tournament, which was held this year in Owen Sound. Five ladies from Maitland attended, but only one, Della Bedard, managed to bring home the bacon. Della played a nice steady game on a tough, windy course to capture low - gross in the first flight. There were 140 - . ladies from .all over the Owen. Sound District, so that wasp?,mean feat. PAF and -Fred; Jewell golfed in the Air Canada finals at the Brampton Golf & Country Club last Friday, and Pat tells me. that while they didn't end up in the money, they really •enjoyed them- selves on this beautiful course. Tennis is officially over for the season, but the courts. are still open and we expect to see balls being lobbed back and forth over those nets until the snow flies. Men's night was held on Thursday of last week; due to the holiday on Monday. The list of winners included Jack Mackenzie, Andy Boutilier, Ken Hall, Bill Brown, John Schneiker, Jack Gould, Bill Duncan, Tom Jasper, and Ross Patterson. By popular-, demand, there will be a repeat •perfcar, alk;of the79gen. House, with music by Tony Nother. Golfers, curlers and tennis players, come on down on Friday, September 29th and have yourselves a ball. There is no ad- mission charge for this event. The dining room is still open, so come down at noon and enjoy one of Debbie's luncheons. Relax in our lovely lounge and let your digestive juices flow while contemplating the most beautiful view on Lake Huron. Every sport and ac- tivity has its own set of rules, but there is one rule that is common to all, and that is, if you take chocolate bars or pop, etc. oiit onto the course or court, make sure you deposit the empty cans and used wrappers in the containers provided. Nothing looks worse than to see cans lying under trees or hushes where they have been tossed. Admittedly, this doesn't happen very often, but when it does it sticks out like a sore thumb. It is the least we can do to help keep the country clulx looking great, especially in view of the labour of love performed by Kim Arbour, when he stayed up all night to water ' the fairways, having to get out every hour to change position of the hoses. Remember what I said two weeks ago, about everybody pitching in and helping -- well, this is the latest example. Thanks a heap, Kim! In case some non - golfer reads this, we have our own pump which draws water from the river for this purpose, so we are not breaking any watering regulations.
