Lucknow Noisy Ladies 16—Goderich Sailorettes 8 Goderich Elevators beat the Lucknow Noisy Ladies 10-2 in the first game of their best -of -three semi-final series on Tuesday night. On Sunday, Canada Co. squeaked by Ziebart. 2-1 but dropped a 7-3 contest to the revitalized Ziebart squad on Monday night. In regular Industrial League play this season, Canada Co. beat out Ziebart by five points to take second place, but obviously have their work cut out for them if they want to advance to the semi-finals. The third and deciding game of the series will be played on Thursday, Sept. 7 at 8:45 p.m. to Sunday's game, Canada Co. got off to a "good start with runs from Pat Conlon and Terry Austin in the. first two innings and held on foi the next five innings to secure the win. Ziebart's only. run of the game came in the third inning, when Ron Whetstone crossed the plate. Winning pitcher Stan Doherty allowed four hits and struck out five batters on the way t'o the win, while loser Simon Langlois gave up five hits and struck out three. Monday night, Canada Co. starting pitcher Glen Tigert blew up in the third inning, allowing four Ziebart batters to score. Tigert was replaced by Doherty on the mound, but a strong defensive effort by Ziebart held Canada Co. off for the rest of the game. With the score 7-1 going into the sixth inning, Canada Co. picked up two more runs from Pat Conlon and Tom O'Keefe but it was too late. Langlois picked up two runs for Ziebart with single. markers going to Whetstone, Greg Hansen, Rick Duckworth, Wayne Doak and Dan Duncan. (Photo by Jim Hagarty) Cleaners stay alive in 11 -inning thriller French Cleaners - staved •off elimination from their quarter -final series against Lakeport Steel on Monday night, with George Sutton bringing in a tie -breaking run in a game that went 11 innings. French edged Lakeport 7-6 in the game, to force a third game in the best -of - three series, after losing a low -scoring 3-0 contest on Sunday. The series will be decided on Thursday, Sept. 7 -at 7:15 'p.m. when the two teams will meet again. Lakeport pitcher Wayne Draper gave up only two hits in Sunday's contest, with excellent infield play keeping the French batters scoreless. Brian. MacKenzie blastedout a home run with nobody on base in the second inning to put Lakeport on '.the scoresheet and in the fifth inning Lloyd Tigert got another homer, bringing Frank Hagan across the plate. - Losing pitcher Ron McWhinny gave up five. hits and picked up four strike outs. Clare Harman scored in the second inning of Monday's game to give French a 1-0 lead held up until the fifth inning when Lakeport tied the score by, virtue of a home run by Carmen Fielder. Lakeport exploded for four runs in the sixth inning. making it a 5-1 game, but French battled back with four runs in the seventh inning to even the score. With the score tied at the end of regulation play, the two teams went into extra innings to decide the game. In the eighth inning, Tim McLean raised Lakeport's spirits with a home...ru.n, but French's Brian McLean crossed the plate to even the score up again. Neither team was able to score in the next two innings, and finally in the 11th, Sutton made it home to salvage French's chances of proceeding in the playoffs. Lasing pitcher Draper gave up 12 hits and struck out six, with French pitcher McWhinny allowing nine hits and picking up four strike outs.
