SOCIAL NEWS Mr. and Mrs. Stanley McNeil, of Welland, and Mr: and Mrs. Fred Tonnes of Port Colborne visited last Wednesday with Mr. and Mrs. Tom Johnston and Miss Laura Phillips. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Haggitt and Mr. Arthur -Youngblut of Goderich returned home last weekend after two weeks visiting with Mr. and Mrs.' Bill Riddell at Manitou, Manitoba. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Henry of Clawson, Michigan visited last week with his sister Mrs. Elsie Scott. Miss Prudence Tracy, Mr. G. Hallowell, Mr. M. Brown, Miss Jean Houston and Miss Jean C. Jamieson, all of Toronto, spent the weekend with the latter's sister, Mrs. Frances Clark. Mr T. Alex Anderson on Dayton, Ohio and nephew, Mr. Gordon Anderson of Brantford called on relatives in the village last Saturday. Mr. and . Mrs. Jack McIntosh of London visited on the weekend with Mrs. Frances Clark. The ladies softball game scheduled for August 24 between Auburn and Blyth will be held on Monday, August 28 at 7 pm at the Auburn ball field. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Cook of Belgrave visited last Sunday afternoon with Mrs. Bert Taylor. The Midget Boys have now eliminated Stanley and Londesboro and are into the finals and playing Beniniller B team. The. Tyke boys two teams are still playing. The Junior girls have been eliminated and the 'Senior girls won the first game in the semi-finals against Stanley and played again this past Tuesday. HOBBY LEADERS NEEDED In the early part of 1978 rry__. -several-ladies of Colborne Township and Goderich district availed them- selves of the opportunity to attend weaving classes and, learn this interesting art which was given by Mrs. Wilmer Hardy at Colborne Township Hall, through the Colborne Township Recreation Committee. Since then, several people have apparently mentioned they would be interested in taking a course such arts as quilting, making twine door mats, ceramics, crocheting and knitting and other interesting hobbies. The next problem is to find leaders or in- structors who would be willing to teach classes, preferably in Colborne Township Hall and the cost of such classes to members. So that the Recreation Committee can give this matter consideration and The annual Leatherland reunion was held last Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Reg Shultz with over 40 present. Mrs. Clare Vincent and son Bruce were in charge of the races and contests. MEMORIAL SERVICE • The trustees of Hope Chapel cemetery, Hullett Township have planned the annual •memorial service for August 27 at 3 p.m. The Reverend Roberts of Belgrave will be the speaker. SOCIAL NEWS Mr. and Mrs. Earl Sherwood had an in- teresting and enjoyable tour by Hanover Tours through the Cattleman's Association recently. Their two weeks' tour took them to many in- teresting places in the West including Van- couver and Victoria, B.C. -When they returned home, they had two of their grandchildren visiting with them, Deanna and Davina Dawson of Corunna. Mr. and Mrs. Eric Reaburn have returned home from a trip to Winnipeg where they attended Mrs. Reaburn's niece's wedding. Their son, James and his friend from B.C. flew in to at- tend the wedding. which. was quite an adventure for James as he piloted the plane, refueled at Lethbridge and Regina and made a safe return to his home in B.C. The Reaburns' son, Earl, will be leaving shortly to attend McGill University in Montreal. Mrs. Eileen (Bogie) Griffiths of North Van- couver has been visiting with relatives and f `fends in Goderich and Colborne district, especially her uncle Rod Bogie of Goderich. The community is pleased to report Mr. Ron Geddes has returned home after being a patient in Victoria Hospital, London where he had major surgery. The sympathy of the community is extended to the family of the late Everett Allin. Many residents of Colborne and district have started in earnest to make plans and prepare for their contribution to the . Christmas Country The opening of Two Miles. Off on Wednesday, August23 at 8:30 marked the return of music to the stage of the Blyth Summer Festival. Two Miles Off, directed by Brian Rintoul of Mitchell, is the story of a small town located two miles from the main highway -j.us.t..enough . to cut, it off and prevent the bus and train from stopping there. The play, written by an Edmonton group known as Theatre Network, is full of music and laughter, and will delight those who have missed the music at Blyth. The play will provide an excellent showcase for the talents of cast members, Kate Trotter, Peter- Snell, . Elizabeth Hanna, Chris Kelk and Alden Jones. They not only sing but provide all the accompanying music for the show. Flute, mandolin, harmonica and guitar are only some of the instruments played by the cast. 'Each of the actors and actresses will portray several characters, in- stead of playing the usual single role. Obviously, the play is a demanding one, but the company announcing our annual...
