P. Brennan of Frontenac,
Missouri are visiting in
this area searching for
their family roots.

supper honoring Andy
and Virginia at the home
of Mrs. Jack Kinney on
Sunday. August 13,
sponsored by the
,K ingsbridge
Genealogical Society.
Guests were welcomed
by the swirl of the
bagpipes played by D.A.
MacLennan.
Following the delicious
outdoor meal, Mrs. Grace
Austin, chairperson,
introduced the following'
numbers: baton twirling
by Canadian Boys'
Champion Tom Gilmore;
stepdancing by Lisa
Frayne; and Mary
Luanne Clare giving a
very descriptive outline
of her recent pilgrimage
to New York and
Washington and her prize
winning speech on The
Holy Land.
Speakers called on at
this time were Bob
SPO
Courtney, president of
the Bruce County
Genealogical Society;
Warren Zinn, Reeve of
Ashfield; Reverend
Father Ed Dentinger,
C.R. ; Andrew Brennan,
and Mrs. Bernardine
Kinney_
Grace Austin gave a
brief history of what the
Kingsbridge
Genealogical Society is
doing and how it came to
be.

atop the Dunlop Division
of the Industrial Softball
League this week,
coming out of two hard-
fought games with a win
and a tie.
On Sunday night,
French battled Ziebart
for nine full innings but
Were unable to break a 4-4
deadlock and so settled
for the tie, On Monday
night, the team had
better luck against
Canada .' Company',
beating ,the second _place _
team 6-2.
The three-point haul for
French puts them a full
five points ahead of
Canada Company with 33
points. In the first round
of the playoffs, scheduled ,
to begin next week,
French will face fourth -
place team Lakeport
Steel in the best two -out -
of -three series. Canada
Company will match up
with Ziebart.
In Sunday's tie against
Ziebart, French trailed 2-
0 after four innings of
play. Wayne Rock's
homer in the third along
with another run from
Dan Duncan put Ziebart
ahead until the fifth in-
ning when French ex-
ploded to take a two -run
lead.
With the bases loaded
in the fifth, George Sutton
knocked in a grand slam
home run, sending Ron
Klages, Frank
MacDonald and Bill
Gallow across,the plate.
French wasn't able to
score during the rest of
the game, but the out-
burst by Sutton w_a_s .
enough to hold off the
persistent Ziebart squad
that -fought back in the
sixth and seventh innings
to tie the game,
Greg Hanson and Don
Parker brought •in the
other two Ziebart runs.
Ziebart collected their
runs on only four hits,
with French picking up
eight.
Frennh had an easier
time of it Monday when
they battled Canada
Company to a 6-2 loss,
clinching the Dunlop
league title. The team
was prnvided. by
violinists Wilfred Hogan
and Finlay MacDonald
with Bob Courtney on the
saxophone and Joyce
Courtney on the piana.
Eugene Frayne sang
several delightful solos
accompanied on . the
piano by Joyce Courtney.
Duets were • siumg by
Father Ed Dentinger and
Raymond Dalton with all
those in attendance
joining in_
Mr, and Mrs_ Brennan
left on Monday to go
home to Missouri with a
warm spot in their hearts
for Kingsbridge, the
home of their ancestors_
They plan to make a
return visit next year.
Two hundred pounds of
beef barbecued on a
rotating spit over an open
fire at the home of Mr.
and Mrs Clients Dalton,
picked up two runs early
in the first inning from
Frank McDonald and
Ray Klages, and the
early lead gave the
players the incentive to
hold off a determined
Canada Company squad_
Leading 2-1 going into
the fourth, French's
George Sutton made it to
second on a double and
the rest of the way home
on Canada's errors. In
the fifth, Klages, Bill
Gallow and Sutton all
crossed the plate -to -round -
out the French scoring.
Sutton had the best
hitting game for French,
knocking out three
doubles for three times at
bat .and scoring twice_
Glen Tigert and Tom
O'Brien got the twp runs
for Canada Company_
Winning pitcher was
Don Whinney who
allowed nine hits and
struck out three, batters.
The loss wentto Stan
Doherty who was hit
eight times. He managed
three strike -outs.
Lakeport holds fourth

pair of games this, week
to end up in fourth place
in the Maitland Division
in Industrial Softball
League play.
Lakeport has a win -loss
record of nine winsand 12
losses, ending up the
season with 18 points. The
team will meet division
winners French Builders
in the upcoming first
round of the playoffs.
..A strong seventh inning
helped Lakeport squeak
by Graham Electric 6-4
on Sunday night, but
Ziebart' proved too much
for them on Monday,
handing the club a 5-1
loss.
In the game against.
Graham, Lakeport got off
to a slow start, trailing 4-2
after five innings. They
after two on runs
from Wayne Draper and
Frank Hagan, but
Graham stormed'back in
the third and,fourth in-
nings to take the lead
- away- from Lakeport.
John Verway and
Shumaker brought in the
first two runs for Graham
in the third, with Fraser
Strong and Mark Ker-
nighan adding the last
two Graham counters in
the next inning.
Lakeport came- out
swinging in the sixth
inning, with Ron Ritchie
and Wayne Draper both
hitting doubles and
making it home. Ed
Jones crossed the plate
on errors by Graham and
the a home run -by Tim -
Mc ean put the game
away for Lakeport.
Lakeport managed 12
hits off losing pitcher
Verway with Jones hit -
ling three times for four
times to the plate. Ver -
way managed five
strikeouts, one more than
winning pitcher Brian
McKenzie who allowed
Graham only six hits.
The loss left Graham
81ectric at the bottom of
the. Dunlop division with
four wins and 17 losses for
the season. The club will
not be participating in the -
upcoming first round
playoff series.

Lakeport to only two hits
and one run in a game
that saw Ziebart collect
nine hits off Wayne
Draper.
Langlois also picked up'
a home run oat way to
Ziebart's 5-1 win_
Lakeport trailed 4-0 going
into the seventh inning
when they managed a run

who hit a homer.

Whetstone with two, Greg

the third, one in the fifth

the evening to partake of
the feast celebrating Mr.
Dalton's 30th birdhday
and the homecoming of
his brother, Danny and
