MacAdam wins
ladies event

The ladies,' brunch,
which was held on Sun-
day. July 31, proved to be
quite a success.
Following the pancake
and sausage meal, nine
holes of golf were played.
First flight low gross was
Sue MacAdam and low
net was Shirley Baechler.
Second flight low gross
was Marj Smith and low
net was Grace Sale- Low
gross in the third flight
was Anne Miller and low
net wasAnne McIsaac.
On Agust 1, low gross
for Men's Night was
Leroy Bedour and low net
was Ron Allin. First
flight winners were
Randy Miller, Dave Graf,
Paul,Banchler and Gerry •
Mero. Second flight
winners included Heinz
Sartori, Stan Telford.

Ward Hodgins of Vanastra accomplished two
firsts on Tuesday afternoon - his very first hole -
in -one ever and the first hole -in -one for the
God -1 S Golf
er c unsetClub this season. Ward, a
member of the Sunset, achieved tbe hole -in -one
on the number 16 hole by using his wedge. ' •

Sunday but Ziebart
halted a possible three
game sweep defeating
the -Company 5-2, Mon-
day.
The two victories leave
Canada Company one win
behind French in the
Dunlop Division pennant
race. They have 14 wins
in 20 games this season.
Canada Company
managed only three hits
off Des/Courtney in the
game with Gords Sports
but one of those hits was a
fifth inning triple by Mike
Donnelly that brought in
both Company runs.
With the game
scoreless after four in-
nings Don Bogie, reached
base on an error with one
out and Courtney gave up
a two -out walk to Pat
Conlon. Donnelly then
nailed the triple to score
Bogie and Conlon with the
winning run.
Gords scored their only
run of .the game as Dick
Schoemaker was hit by a
pitch and scored on
sacrifices.
Stan Doherty •limited
Gords to just one hit in
the game, a third in-
ning double by Warren
Watt. He gave up two
walks and one runner
reached base on an error.
Courtney also turned in
• a stingy performance
giving up three hits
across seven innings, but
an error, walk and triple
by Donnelly proved to be
the difference. Bob Dick
.and Glen Tigert had the
other Company hits.

Sunday as they over
came a 6-1 deficit after
four, innings of play;
scoring six runs in the
fifth inning en route to an
11-6 win over Graham
Electric.
Graham Electric took
control of the game in the
efirlyiattings and built up
a 6-1 lead after four in-
nings of play.
Canada Company got
one run back in the third
inning with their first 4wo
hits of the game. Bob
Dick singled and scored
on Conlon 's double.
But Graham got to Glen
Tigert for four runs in the
bottom of the third inning
on four straight( hits.

Haggitt doubled, Mark
Frayne singled and Mark
Kernighan tripled and

Canada Company lost
their final game of the
week as Ziebart went on
• a home run spree that

five runs in the 5-2 win
Monday:
Parker was the games
top batter, connecting for
three hits in as many
trips to the plate: He
knocked in three runs
and scored one. Hansen
.chipped. in with a double
and single in four at bats.
Donnelly led the
Company offence with
three of his teams eight
hits. He also scored one
run.

Lakeport Steel got a
fine pitching per-
formanee from Wayne
Draper Sunday as
Lakeport edged French
3-1 but the Cleaners
picked up their 15th win
of the season Monday
with a 6-1 victory over
Graham Electric.
French now boasts a 15-
5 won -lost record, two
points ahead of Canada
Company,
The French -Lakeport
contest was a game of
home runs, as home runs
accounted for all the
scoring and all were hit in
the first inning.
Lakeport technically
put the game away in the
bottom of the first inning
as homers by Draper and
Brian McKenzie boosted
them into a 3-1 lead that
stood throughout the
game.
Ron Klages gave
French a one-rurl lead in
the ball game with a lead-
off run off Draper. But
-that-was-the- -6iirS?
Draper gave up,
limiting French to only
three hits after the
Klages homer.
Lakeport retaliated
with a home run derby of
their own in the bottom of
the first with a rally that
began with two out. Tim
McLean singled and
.Draper then smacked the
two -run shot to give
Lakeport the lead.
McKenzie then followed
suit_ w.ttl_La S Qlo blast for
the Steelers final run.
Don McWhinney gave
up seven hits in the loss,
three in the first inning.
Lloyd Tigert and
McKenzie got to him for
two hits apiece while
four players, shared the
French offence.
The win was the eighth
of the season for
Lakeport against - 11
losses.
French rebounded
form the loss with a 6-1
victory Graham Electric
Monday behind an 11 -hit
attack. _ _
Ron and Ray Klages
and Ray Ilerd-iedi,,the
French offence with two
hits apiece and Ron
Klages scored two runs.
French nailed losing
pitcher, John Verway, for
nine singles and two
doubles in the game.
Bill Gallow and Clare
Harmon hit the doubles
for French and both
scored run.

Twp. teams in
softball playoffs
This past week has
been a busy one for all
our teams. The Midget
Boys have both been put
out of the semifinals. The
"A" Boys lost out to
Westfield (Auburn "B")
two games to one, while
the "B" Boys lost two
games straight to Port
Albert (Benmiller B.
The Pee Wee "B" Boys
are sitting out the 'first
round of play while the
"A" Boys are playing
Londesboro and have a
game each.
The Tykes were rained
out on Wednesday night
but played Friday instead '
and lost to Benmiller
The Girlsare doing
better so far as they haVe
both won their first
games. The Midgets are
against Milieu "A" while
the Pee Wee's played
Stanley "B".
Crunch Classic set
•
This Saturday, August
12th,. the second annual
"Captain Crunch" Cruise
race will -take place at the
Goderich Harbour. The
race tests the sailors
knowledge of cruising as
well as racing by com-
bining elements of both in
the one event.
The boats must he
anchored, with all sails
down prior to and
following the race, which
will begin inside the
break w a Ils-arid-fol low4. a
triangular course of
approximately 15 km. The
winners. trophy is
courtesy Captain's
Quarters Mens Wear.
Last year's winner,
Graham Electric to seven
hits in the game and they
scored their only run in
the tap of the first inning
whenBruce Bowan led off
the game with a solo
home run.
Graham had six other
singles off McWhinney in
the game but couldn't put
the hits together for a"
run. •
-Bowman was the top
Electric batter with three
hits in four trips to the
plate. After his first in-
ning home run he added
singles in the third and
fifth inning.
Graham Electric lost
two games this week and
their records stands at
four wins againt-14 losses
in the Dunlop Division.
French returns to
action Sunday againt
Ziebart at 7 pm and
Graham Electric will
play Lakeport Steel
following the French
game.
