Last week in a Signal-
, Star story about a special
council meeting on the
widening of Highway 21
south, several ideas and
statements were at-
, - tributed to Councillor Bob
Allen. Unfortunately,
Councillor Allen did not
attend the meeting.
Jim Hagarty, the
Mitchell Advocate news
editor who is spending
some time in Goderich
this summer, covered
that meeting armed with
a seating plan of town
council to aid him in
identification of people he
didn't know. Apparently,
the town engineer Burns
Ross was seated in
Councillor Allen's spot.
The Signal -Star
apologizes to Burns Ross
and to Councillor Bob
Allen. The facts in the
story, however, were not
disputed. So read it again
if you wish and substitute
Burns Ross' name for
Councillor Allen's.

W .E . Elliott,
Goderich's well-known
and best loved historian,
recently Celebrated his
95th birthday. He and his
wife Anne greeted about
18 guests who gathered to
wish-Billallthe best.
Bill marked the oc-
casion by sending
another of his excellent
historical features to the
Signal -Star. That story
appears this week and
concerns the Stewart

story is well researched
and should be a collec-

In the middle of one of
the hottest, dryest
summers on record, St.
John Ambulance reminds
you that heat can be a
menace. It causes a loss
of body fluids and salt
that can lead to heat
exhaustion. Elderly and
obese people are most
susceptible, but it can
catch anyone, even
children.
Normally over-exertion
will cause it, but on a
very hot day, you'll lose
energy just sitting
around. On days like that,
make the kids sit 'down
and cool off occasionally

Heat exhaustion shows
a shock -like condition
with dizziness, muscle
cramps, cold, clammy
skin and sometimes
nausea and diarrhea. Get
the victim into a cool
place. If he's vomitting or
has diarrhea, add a half a
teaspoon of salt_ tn.a pint
of water or give him a
salted broth.
If he's unconscious,
don't try to give -him-
anything by mouth. Put
him in what's called the
recovery position, lying
down, on his side with the
head back so that if he is
sick, he will not choke.
