thtiqu€ show - a first
BY JOANNE WALTERS
The Volunteer
Association of the
Bluewater Centre for the
Developmentally Han-
dicapped has thought up
yet another unique idea
for making money to
benefit the handicapped
of that institution.
The latest money-
making venture will take
the form of an Antique
Show and Sale- on Friday
and Saturday, August 11
and 12.
Originally, the
organizers had planned to
feature I8 -antique dealers
from the Huron County
area. They have now,.
booked 21 dealers from
all over Southwestern
Ontario and are still
turning others away.
"The response has been
terrific," says Pat
Wheeler, co-ordinator of
the Volunteer
Association.
There will - be four
dealers from Goderich,
three from Bayfield, one
from Clinton, four from
London, one from Kin-
-cardine, two from
Hanover, one from
Walkerton, one from
Crediton, one from
Courtright, one from
Chatham, one from Owen
Sound and one from
WoOd-STOCk.These
dealers will display a real
variety of antiques and
each one has signed a
Contract agreeing to sell
only genuine antiques,
says Mrs. Wheeler.
"It will not be _a _flea
market. There will only
be antiques of the highest
quality", she says.
The antique show and
sale is a first for the
Centre and Mrs. Wheeler
says,to her knowledge
there hasn't been another
of its type in the area. The
Volunteer Association
are hoping to make it an
annual event.
"We feel we are
providing a service to the
community and
benefitting the han-
dicapped at the same
time," says Mrs.
Wheeler.
This summer, the
Volunteer Association
has spent over $3,000 on
camping equipment for
the Centre's residents.
However, the,Association
would like to secure
structures more per-
manent than tents. In
order to..help raise money
for cabins and the
development of an at-
tractive camp ground
setting on the lake bank
at the Centre, the
Association is asking for
community support.
