Seven teams participated from communities in Exeter Elmira, Tara, •Clinton, Kincardine, St. Marys and Goderich. Goderich won the meet decisively with a total of 356% pts. Kincardine and Elmira trailed the host team with scores of 238 and 2121/2 respectively. Goderich hosted a swim meet at Judith Gords Sports raked Canada Company pitcher Stan Doherty for five runs in the sixth inning to lead the Sports to a 9-7 win over Company in Industrial League action Sunday. Trailing 6-4 after five innings of play Gords erupted for five runs of four hits in the sixth to hand the Company their fifth loss of the season. The win was the ninth Of the season for Gords against eight losses. Gords took a one -run •lead in the top of the first inning on a sole home run by Phil Petrie. But Canada Company produced some big bats in their behalf of the first sc_oring five runs on six hits. Gords added three runs in the second inning to narrow the Company lead to 5-4 but Canada Com- pany got a single run from Bob Dick in the third to retain their two - run margin. That lead stood until Gords belted Doherty for five runs in the sixth inning. Rick McLean started the rally with a lead off home run and Dennis Williamson, Des Courtney, Jon Ginn and Phil Petrie added the other runs, to boost Gords into a 9-6 lead. Courtney retired the first two men in the Company seventh before Dave MacKenzie hit a ,home run to pull the Company within two runs. Bob Dick followed with a double but Courtney snared a line drive back at the box for the third out. Tykes begipplayoff series with Walkerton The Goderich Victoria and Grey Tyke all-stars ended their WOAA regular schedule Sunday losing to Walkerton 16- 11 in a game played in , Walkerton. One big inning spoiled the tykes chances for a win in their final season game as Walkerton scored eight runs in the third inning. ta clinch the victory. Walkerton fell behind in the game as Goderich scored four runs in their first at bat. Jim Beattie walked, Graham Weatherby followed a single and Matt Buchanan drove the pair home with a triple. Buchanan also scored as Kelly Allin delivered a two -out single.' Kevin Telford scored the other run. Walkerton took control .,of the game as they scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning and with eight runs in the third led 12 - 4 after three innings of 'play. They led the game 16 - 5 after five innings of play but Goderich rallied Ir six runs in the top of th seventh inning. Weatherby, Allin, Joey Fitzpatrick and David Almasi with a triple had hits in the Goderich seventh inning.. Weatherby led the Goderich offence with three hits, including a triple.. He also scored three runs. Team-mates Buchanan and Allin added two hits apiece. Goderich finished in fourth position in the tyke league standings and now enters a best -of -three playoff series with Walkerton. The first game will be played in, Walkerton tonight and the second game will be played at Agriculture Park, Goderich Saturday at 10 a.m. A third game, if necessary, will be played in Walkerton Monday. two -hitter. John Crawford spun a neat two -hitter and Mike Wildgen and Dave Patterson blasted home runs to lead Little Bowl to 11-1 win over Ziebart in Industrial League action. Thursday. Little Bowl came through with one of their most productive,nights at the plate labelling Simon Langlois for 11 runs on nine hits in the five inning game. ' Little' Bowl scored two runs in the first inning, three in the third, five in the fourth and added their final tally in the fifth Wildgen started the onslaught with a lead- off home run and Glen Falkiner added the other run in the first inning as Little Bowl built up a two - run lead. Wildgen led the Little Bowl offence with two hits- in four at bat in- cluding the home run. He also scored three runs. Patterson chipped in - with a two -run blast in the third inning that scored Rob Snell and Falkiner. Crawford came up with his finest performance on the season ' limiting Ziebart to one run on two hits in five innings. Ron Qorriveau had both Ziebart s hits, a second inning single and a fifth inning double, and scored their only run in the fifth inning. Crawford walked one batter in the game and faced 18 batters. The win was the seventh of the season for Little Bowl and they remain in fourth place in the Maitland Division. After the meet the vic- torious team gathered at St. Christophers beach for a wonderful Pot -Luck Supper which was generously contributed to by team supporters. The swim team is looking forward to its next meet in Elmira on August 5. Winner of the "name the swim team" contest is Cathy Sowerby for her submission of the name "Goderich Laketown Races". Congratulations Cathy! French record is best French Dry Cleaners built up a four -point lead in the Maitland Division race over Canada Company with two league victorieslast week. French edged Fisher 4- 3 Sunday with a two -run rally in the sixth inning and chalked up their second victory with a 4-0 shutout over Gord's Sports, Monday. The victories improved the French record to 14 wins in 18 games'for 28 points, four ahead of second place Canada Company who lost their only game of the week. Pitcher Don McWhinney gave up three homeruns to Fisher bats in the game Sunday but a sixth inning single by Rob Standen brought in two run § to lift the Cleaners to a 4-3 win. Ron Klages broke up 'a scoreless game. in the third inning with, a lead- off homerun. French added to the lead in the same inning as Bill Gallow and Clare Har- man hit hack to back singles and Gallow scored on an error. Fisher tied the game in the top of the fourth as Gerry Durst hit a two -out, solo homer to narroWAhe French lead to a single run and JohnHoy promptly followed with a homer to tie the game. Durst was rather in- sistent oh, putting Fisher in the lead and smacked his second consecutive homer in the sixth inning giving Fisher a 3-2 lead. But- French responded to the challenge and scored two runs in their half of the sixth on suc- cessive singles by. Don . McWhinney, Frank MacDonald and Standen. McWhinney went the distance for French giving up three runs on five hits. He struck out five batters. Losing pitcher Fred Pellow gave up four runs on eight hits. Ron Klages and Frank MacDonald led the Fisher attack with two hitaapiece. Durst with two home runs, was the top Fisher batter.
