temporary blindness.
"Well, it was
frustrating during the
meal. 1 wanted very
ha div to help her eat,"
answered the girl.
"And I knew she
.wanted to help me and I
was determined to do it
on my own," answered
the blind" Lorettta.
Hunsberger helped the
group invent a new game
called "murder tube"
played with croquet
mallets and an inner
tube. This game was just
made up -on the spur of
the moment and it was
adapted so that it in-
volved everybody. The.
purpose was to show the
group how they could
make up their own
creative games to suit the
participants with the use
of very few props.
As the group played the
game, the blind Loretta
shouted, "Hey, this isn't
any fun. I want to see!"
"I've never seen an
arthritic ' like this
before," remarked
Husnberger pointing to a
girl whose bandages had
become loosened enough
so that she could take a
very active part in the
game.
The leadership camp
is the first of its kind to be
held at Camp
Menesetung, according to
Joe Snider, business
manager of the camp
which has been in
existence since 1932. It
may even be the first of
its kind in the province,
adds Al 'Sinclair, con-
sultant for the Ministry of
Culttu a and Recreation in
Huron -Perth.
Sinclair says the camp
was planned after the
Ministry saw a training
need for many of the
young people going into
summer programs
working with disabled
people. These young
people, often working on
Experience '78 or Young
Canada Work type
projects, didn't have the
experience or orientation
needed to work with
disabled people. And, sop
the camp was to give
them that orientation,
experience and training.
"We hope we'll be able
to hold more such
camps," says Sinclair.
"Because the need exists.
