The man with the fixed heart
BY PASTOR
FRED DAY,
BETHEL
PENTECOSTAL
TABERNACLE
Read Psalm 112:
Our text is about a man.
The Psalmist knows a •
man. He says in verse 7,
"He shall not be afraid of
evil tidings: his heart is
fixed, trusting in the
Lord."
In Psalm 112:1 he says,
"Blessed is the man that
feareth the Lord."
In a dark hour, this
man, whoever he was,
heard evil tidings. Maybe
it was war or riots or
maybe a heart condition.
Whatever it was, in this
day the evil tidings
covered the land. Yet
when people's hearts
were failing them for fear
and many were
frightened, fearful,
scared and trembling, the
Psalmist said, "I know a
fellow that is not bothered
by all the bad tidings. I
know a fellow who stands
firm against or amidst
the evil tidings. I know a
fellow who doesn't go to
pieces when you mention
all these problems. He
hears the evil tidings but
is not afraid."
WHY? His heart is
fixed. He trusts the Lord.
That is why he is not
afraid. He doesn't have to
have a tranquilizer. Let's
look at that man.
HE FEARS THE
LORD. He is not afraid
because he fears the
Lord. He does not get
ruffled because he fears
the Lord. J. Hyles says
we better fear God more
than we fear ...riots . .
.than we fear Com-
munists. Here is a man
that fears God.
HE LOVES THE
WORD O1' GOD. Here is
a man who does not have
to have tranquilizers.
Here is a man who does
not have to have a ner-
vous breakdown. He
doesn't have to have pills
to make him sleep. Here
is a man who fears God.
He loves the Word of God.
He is not upset. He is not
falling apart. He is not
shook up. Here is a man
who, when evil tidings
come, he stands his
ground. Why? He loves
the word of God. A
generation of people who
love the Word of God is a
generation who will not
get "shook up" so much.
Rather "calm",
"peaceful",' "quiet
assurance".
David said, "There is a
fellow by my house, that
fears the Lord. There is a
fellow by my house who
loves the Word of God."
"I will lift up mine eyes
untothe dills, from
whence cometh my help.
My help cometh from the
Lord, which made heaven
and earth. He will not
suffer thy foot to be
moved: He that keepeth
thee will not slumber.
Behold he that keepeth
Israel shall neither
slumber nor sleep. The
Lord is thy keeper: the
Lord is thy shade upon
they right hand. The sun
shall not smite thee by
day, nor the moon by
night. The Lord shall
preserve thee from all
evil: he shall preserve
they soul. The Lord shall
preserve thy going out
and thy coming in from
this time' forth, and even
for evermore." (Psalm
121)

FILM DEVELOPING
David says, "I know a
fellow who walks by my
house. He fears the Lord.
I know him, he loves the
Bible.
HE HAS A CHRISTIAN
HOME
His children live right.
They are honest. They
don't cheat on tests at
school. They dress like
Christians. They are
courteous. They do what
dad says. They obey.
They love God. They are
pure and decent.
HE HELPS OTHERS
Psalm 119:9, "He hath
dispersed, he hath given
to the poor." He does help
others. That is the fellow
who is not afraid. Who
does not let riots upset
him. Who doesn't tremble
when he thinks of the
atomic bomb. He helps
others.
Psalm 112:10, "The
wicked shall see it and be
grieved." He is the
calmest fellow of them
all. When the lightening
strikes he is calm. When
the bad tidings come he
goes about -his work. He
goes ahead and does
right. He is not upset
about it. He loves the
Bible. He meditates on
the Bible. He has a
Christian home. Look at
him. He helps the poor.
He gives to others. He
dispenses that which God
has given him.`'
HE IS HATED
Peopld say, "He is
some sort of nut. He won't
gamble. He doesn't listen
to dirty stories. He says
his prayer at meals.
Someone said, "If
somebody at your job
doesn't call you a
fanatic, there is
something wrong with
you."
So, the Psalmist says,
"I know a fellow who
lives in my neigh-
bourhood. I've watched
him. He fears the Lord.
He loves the Word. He
has a Christian family.
He helps others. He is
unselfish. He is hated."
"Folks don't like him
very much, but there is
one thing I've noticed
about him" says the
Psalmist, "when evil
tidings come, they don't.
bother him a great deal.
He "just goes about his
business."
Why? His heart is
fixed. He has something
inside him. ' He has
character. He says, "My
heart is fixed. I'm going
to serve God. I'm going to
trust the Lord."
HIS GOD KNOWS BEST
This man has his faith
in a God who knows best.
He believes in a God in
heaven who has his hands
on the controls, He
believes in Romans 8: 28.
He believes that there are
no accidents. You don't
have to get upset about
the present world con-
dition and have a nervous
breakdown or go to pieces
because of the terror or
horror of the day. The
Bible says all things work
for good.
HIS GOD WILL
CONQUER
Why get worried? But
they can blow us into a
million pieces. God will
put every piece together.
God knows where I am. A
commentary on Isa. 9:6
says that "The Prince of
Peace" means
"Tranquilizer". His
name shall be called
"The tranquilizer". You
say, "My days are so full -
I've so much on my mind.
I think I'm going to fall
apart." Take "the
tranquilizer." Take
Jesus.
HIS GOD LOVED HIM
He said, "God loved
me. He is going to, take
care of me.. God will
provide for me." There is
a wonderful security in
God's love. Pick up the
newspaper and you read
evil tidings. Some are
dying of heart attacks.
Some of cancer. All is
bad. Then pick up the
tidings from the Lord and
read, "Let not your heart
be troubled." JOHN
14:1,2. We have tidings
from the Lord that brings
calmness, security, and
composure. Read
PSALM 91, "He that
dwellest..." Then read
PSALM 8 "0 lord our
Lord..." Friends our lives
can be calm, secure,
happy. How? By having a
fixed heart. By believing
the Bible is Word of God.
By believing that the God
of this Bible controls the
world. That when the -
battle is over, we will
wear a crown. The devil
said to Paul, I'm going to
persecute you Paul."
Paul', "I rejoice in Per-
secution". Devil: "I'll
ave you thrown in jail".
aul: "I'll pray the walls
down. Have a revival,
and win the jailer."
Devil: "I'm going ,to kill
you"
Paul: "For me to live is
Christ..."
What can you do with a
guy like that? The
Psalmist said I know a
man like that. That's the
kind of man I want to be. I
want my neighbours to
say "There is a man who
is not upset by evil
tidings. His heart is fixed.
He trusts the Lord." ,
