Wanted:
One Scottish dialect
BY JOANNE WALTERS
Are there any readers
out there from Ayrshire,
Scotland or with relatives
from Ayrshire? If so, you
are needed by Steven
Thorne, an actor with the
Blyth Summer Festival.
Thorne is playing the
role of John Galt's son in
the Festival's production
of The Huron Tiger which
opens July 7. Galt was
born in the town of Irvine
in Ayrshire and Thorne
would 110.. to talk with
someone from.,that area,
preferably a male, in
order to pick up the
dialect and rhythm of
speech. From talking
with such a person, he
hopes to be able to record
and practise the speech
thus making his
character more
authentic.
Rehearsals began this
week for the play cen-
tered around Tiger
Dunlop, the outrageously
eccentric founder of the
town of Goderich, and
Thorne is anxious to meet
with someone who can
help him perfect his role.
If you are that someone,
please contact Thorne at
the Blyth , Summer
Festival, 523-9300. He
would be more than
happy to hear your voice.
The Huron Tiger is a
rough and tumble saga of
the wild days of the
Canada Company and the
settlement of Ontario.
1 -J
Peter Colley of London,
Ontario, author of "The
Donnellys", brings the
legend of Tiger Dunlop to
life in this often hilarious
play about the gigantic
Scot with the firey
temperment and blazing
wit. After opening up the
wilderness, Dunlop
became the champion of
the settlers and fought for
their rights in.. the rip
roaring election cam-
paigns of pioneer politics.
His stormy career made
him one of the most
colorful M.P.s in
Canadian history -known
throughout the Dominion
as the Huron Tiger.
After opening on July 7,
the Huron Tiger will play
July 8, 13, 14, 18, 19, 20, 22,
24, 27, 28 and August 2, 10,
18, 24 and 26. All plays
will be performed at 8:30
p.m. except for 2 p.m.
matinees on July 20 and
August 24.
For further in-
formation about this play
or others, call the Blyth
Summer Festival.
