Sailing Club
opens race season
BY DOUG BUNDY
The Goderich Sailing Club opened the sailing
season last Sunday with the first in the Spring
Series of races. A total of ten keel boats in the 22
to 32 foot class took part, and most finished the
nearly 10 mile course in under two hours. Only 25
seconds separated the first and second place
finishers, with Lynn Myers in his Soling finishing
first in 1:58:09, corrected time, George
Robertson in second place in an Ontario 32 with a
corrected elapsed time of 1:58:34. Ken Bauer
finished in third, while Ken Dawson came a
close fourth.
In the dinghy class, two lasers fought it out in
the face of 25 to 30 knot winds and both'com-
pletely out -classed the heavier Minuet. Brian
Hall finished first, with Dave Parsons second.
Doug. Bundy in the Minuet finished well behind in
third place.
Following that exhausting sail, most of the
boaters returned to decorate their boats for the
annual sail -past sponsored by the Goderich
Power Squadron. Although fewer boats than
normal took part this year, it was a fine opening
to the sailing season.
Next weekend the G.S.C. is planning a cruise to
. Bayfield Harbour, leaving either Friday or
Saturday evening at Blue Anchor, and then race
back to Goderich on Sunday. If you plan to take
part, give Paul Carroll a call at 527-1860.
