The Eager Beavers are
The Eager Beavers are
the only remaining un-
defeated team in the
Men's Slowpitch League
as they dumped the
Firemen in a battle for
the league lead.
The Beavers edged the
Firemen 8-7 with two

runs in the bottom of the
seventh inning to boost
their season record to
five wins against no
losses.
The loss was the second
of the week for the
Firemen as they dropped
a 10-6 decision to Meneset
Park, Sunday. The
Firemen were • able to
salvage the week's play
with a 22-6 victory over
the Champions. Their
record now stands at four
wins against two losses
and leaves tied for second
place with the Leafs and
1863.
The Leafs won their
only game of the week,
defeating the Coyotes 8.2.

four of their five games.
1863 moved up in the
standings with two vic-
tories :n three league
games this week. • After
losing 16-6 to the Beavers,
'1863 rebounded for a 5-0
victory over Bethel and
an II -8 win over the
Orphans.
The Church dropped
into third place in the
standings with that Toss
and their record now
stands at three wins and
two losses. •
Denomme, Meneset
Park and the Orphans
each boosted their point
total by two points this
week but Denomme and

team split their two
league games this week
defeating Exeter 7-6 in
Exeter Friday aid losing
at home to Seaforth 16-10.
The victory was the
second of the season for
the Bantams as they won
their home opener 6-1
over Dashwood.
Seaforth spotted
Goderich a lead early in
the game but spoiled
their attempt for a second
straight win scoring 16
runs and coasting to a 16-
10 victory.
Seaforth opened the
scoring with a single run
in the top half of the first
inning but Goderich
responded with four runs
in the bottom of the first
inning for a 4-1
However, Seaforth Seaforth took
advantage of four walks
and several defensive
errors in the second in-
ning as they rallied for
seven runs and an 8-1
lead. Goderich chipped
away at the lead scoring
a single run in the second
inning and theywent on
to tie the game with a
three -run fourth inning
rally.
Seaforth took the lead
in the fifth inning with
one run, they added two
more in the sixth and five
in the seventh inning.
Goderich scored two runs
in their final at bat to
round out the scoring.
Goderich rebounded
from the loss with a 7-6
victory over Exeter,
Friday.
• The Bantams scored
single runs in the first
and fifth innings, two in
the fourth and three in the
sixth inning.
Goderich held a 4-1 lead
after 4'/2 innings of play
before Exeter scored two
runs in their half of the
fifth inning to narrow the
margin to a single run.
Goderich then took ad-
vantage of three straight
walks in the sixth inning
to score three runs arid
increase their lead to 7-3.
Exeter failed to score
in the sixth inning but
with two out in the
seventh they began a
comeback that produced
three runs before
Goderich managed to get
the final out and win the
game. The Bantams
return to action tonight
with a 6:301game against
Exeter.
Anne Marie Murphy received the Most Valuable Female Athlete award and
Tim Doherty received the Brian Dowds Memorial Trophy for the Most
Valuable Male Athlete at the awards assembly held for G.D.C.I. students

Four -run inning lifts Gords
Gord's Sports won their
third game of the
Industrial League season
Sunday outlasting Green
and Parent 8-5.
Gord's offence knocked
three Green and Parent
pitchers for 12 hits in the
game as they struck for
three runs in the first
inning, one in the third
and completed the
scoring with a four -run
fourth inning.,,
The Thunderbirds
scored single runs in the
second and fifth inning
and rallied for three runs
in their final at bat.
The win wasthe third of
the season Dfor Gord's
against four losses and
boosted them into third
position in the Maitland
Division. The loss was the
second of the week for the
Thunderbirds and the
fifth--' of the season in
seven games. They are
now in last place in the
five -team ' divisidn with
four points.
Gord's tagged losing
pitcher Bruce Betties for
three, runs in the top of
the first inning on five
hits. Jon Ginn and Phil
Petrie knocked back to
back singles and with two
out Brian Rumig
smashed a double to
score' both runners.
Rumig then scored the
third run on a single by
Jim Ginn.
Ginn engineered the
fourth Gord's run in the
third inning with a single
that. scored Petrie. They
added four more runs in
the foruth inning.
Green and Parent
scored a run in the second
inning as Ron Allen
-singled in John Warr and
Bruce Lynden added a
second run in the fifth
inning.
The Thunderbirds
rallied for three runs in
the -bottom of the seventh
on doubles by Jim
Martin, Dennis Miskie
and a triple by Phil
Turner.
Rick McLean and Jim
Ginn led the Gord's 12 -hit
attack with three hits
each. Brian Rumig
chipped in with two
doubles and Des Cour-
tney added two singles.
Martin had two hits for
the Thunderbirds in-
cluding a double.
Courtney went the
distance in the win
allowing seven hits while
striking out six batters.
Elevators dump Clinton
The Goderich'
Elevators exploded for 13
runs in the first three
innings of a game against
the Clinton Housewives
and coasted to a 13-9
victory in Huron Central
Ladies Softball League
action.
The Elevators spotted
Clinton a one -run lead
after the first inning of
play and then went on a
seven -run scoring' binge
in the second 'inning and
added five more in the top
of the third. They scored
their final run in the
fourth inning.
After .their first inning
run, Clinton fought back
with four runs in their
half of the third inning,
added a single in the fifth
and then scored three
runs in their final at bat
but the rally fell short.
Marg Kovac led the
Elevators' offence with
