The Goderich Signal-Star, 1978-05-11, Page 30PAGE BA--GODERICH SIGNAL -STAR, THURSDAY, MAY 11, 1978 Round `n'About... Last week I told you about the "workshops" Goderich Little Theatre plan for May and June - and I had a wrong name for the makeup expert from Stratford. I hope he hasn't noticed it. The date for the lighting workshop is May 21 by David Blaney and the name for the makeup workshop is Mr. Clayton Shields, May 28. Then June 10 and 11 David Fanstone of Kingston does an interesting coverage for directors and those who think they would like to direct a play. These all take place at MacKay Hall, North Street at Nelson. They are all called for 10 a.m. but you must be there before ten, between 9:30 and 9:45 will be fine but don't meander in after ten for goodness sake! s-akc! Have you been reading all the advice on how to look younger, be healthier and feel better that you see in almost every magazine? They tell you why and how vitamins and minerals help since "Millions of Americans - and perhaps Canadians are looking older than their years, sickly and with poor complexions because they are not taking the vitamins and other nutritional factors needed for a youthful zestful appearance". I'm sure many of you don't want to start looking "youth- ful" but it is nice to have the energy to look and feel like doing things and going places. For a great many years Ihave been a vitamin pusher. When I think back on the number of years I have taken vitamins - and the things I have done over those years -- I just have to say I couldn't have done it alone! When we were young, "we were "good" eaters - we weren't allowed to be "picky". I think that is the best start in life Uany child could have. As you grow older you have better control over what you eat and I think most people eat good solid meals and get over the picky bit - if you don't you're into drink and junk foods. I've never -had the time or inclination for either. " 'During the last war I had a job where I worked usually 12 hours a day. I had a house and two children to worry and fuss over and all this takes a lot of energy. Before this I had been taking Vitamin B's because I'd developed sciatica, neuritis and lumbago and all the ailments that accompany these miserable aches and pains. After this was settled down, I was given good ad- vice mineral tablets and my illnesses since then were not because I lacked pep and vitality - ii was old age creeping up on me - that's not really true - but as I grow older I have enjoyed my health - and vigor and would to see others feeling as lik d. , I know that, now, I couldn't get all the nutritional factors / I need from food because your eating habits change a great deal over the years. So there now - if you are feeling draggy, low on the get up and go to your doctor for advice on this I'm sure he won't recommend sulphur and molasses, as is, but a pill that is easy to take and works without you realizing it. Big things don't happen right away, but a few weeks can put you on the road to feeling great - TRY IT - and I don't expect any vitamin company to come running because I've- said all this. I just want to see those SMILES. Terry Crowley GODERICH 524-9075 representing London Life ...with Martha Here's a bit on "Natural Resources": Children are better at some things than us - like eating a sandwich and leaving the crust; at skipping on sidewalks and,not touching cracks, or reaching mosquito bites down on their backs. They're, whizzes at loosening a tooth 'til it wiggles, and able to cut up a worm while it wriggles! 'Tho children, admittedly, may have their troubles, they chew gum the longest and make the best bubbles, they Martha Rathburn" appears weekly in The Signal -Star. all have two stomachs, so if one should hurt from meat and potatoes - there's room • for dessert. And what's more amazing - these marvelous tricks most children have `mastered before they are six. Thanks to Lyla Blake. Ward for these fine words. There are two interesting films being shown Friday night, May 12, 8 p.m. sharp at the Public LibrUary. Victoria Street United Church Women have their Centennial Spring Flowers Tea and Bake Sale on Wed- nesday.afternoon, May 17. The Nile United Church big Ham and Turkey Supper is May 24. So, don't forget these little outings. Then on June 2 - mark your calendar now - Mary Lynne Telford tells .me the kid's examinations are pver and the concert is all set. These talented children will give you an enjoyable evening of Highland dancing at MacKay Hall. June 7 at Maitland Golf and Country Club is the G.L.T. Annual dinner'. The active members will know about this but all the other theatre members are reminded that they are welcome to come to this business and fun night. Did you know Little Theatre President Frank Bisset is in hospital? If you can he would be happy to see you. Last week some of Little Theatre members gathered at Arie VanDer Ende's home for "readings" for future plays. Everyone enjoyed the interesting home and the visit to Arie's art studio and the wonderful hospitality that two warm people extend. Besides seeing views of the last few theatre ..presen- tations, I believe a terrific play has been chosen for next season. It is a laugh play - and we all need laughs. Love Martha. Bridge scores Frank and Jim Donnelly edged the team of Evelyn Galbraith and Dawna Sproule by one-half point to win the game at the May 2 meeting of the Goderich Bridge Club. Mary Donnelly and Eleanor Erskine were third with 761/2 points and Louise Hetherington and Jean Papernick were fourth with 731/2 points. Here a group of visitors tour the leisure workshop where residents are involved with ceramics. Centre administrator, Bill Gregg was pleased with the response of the open house this year and intends to expand the programs. (photo by Dave Sykes) Bluewater welcome The response to the second open house at the Bluewater Centre for Developmentally Handicapped was `so gratifying' that centre Administrator Bill Gregg hopes to expand the program next year. "I am gratified with the response. it is beyond ex- pectation this year," Gregg said. "There are at least .160 signatures in the 'guest book but some of those represent families so there are many more here today." The open house concept was initiated by Gregg last year in an effort to educate the public about the programs and "facilities of- fered at the centre. He said it is aimed at public awareness,' not only of the facilities and programs of the centre but also to acquaint people with the volunteer opportunities. The tours offered during the open house looked at several facets of the facility such as the houses, workshops, leisure activity areas, the greenhouses and there were video presen- tations on the farm project and other leisure activities enjoyed by the residents during the year. Gregg noted that the response to the open house came not only from friends. and relatives of residents but from many other people in the surrounding com- munities. The centre is now Operating at capacity, 100 residents, but Gregg intimated that ex- pansion plans at Bluewater are imminent. He said the Ministry of Community and Social Services has made a committment for expansion but no firm date has been set due to economics. , Staff members conducted tours through the centre and visitors were offered refresh- ments in the auditorium and were entertained by the resident choir conducted by Crystal Jewitt..
