Local art adorns library walls
BY JOANNE WALTERS
If you happen to wander
into the Goderich branch of
the Huron County Public
Library sometime in May,
you may be in for a treat.
Besides the rows of books
which line the walls, there is
also a display of 33 paintings,
most of them shown for the
first time, courtesy of the
Godericfi Art Club.
The paintings which will
adorn the library walls for
three weeks, include
watercolors, oils, abstracts,
pen and ink sketches and
even a collage. The subjects
are varied, ranging from
portraits to flowers, buildings
and landscapes. All are very
colorful.
The opening night for the
display was•. held last Thur-
sday evening at which time
coffee was served and the
club members .were on hand
to greet those who dropped
by.
The Goderich Art Club has
about 20 members who meet
Wednesday afternoons at
their studio in the basement
of MacKay Hall to paint.
Once a month there is an
executive meeting. This
year's presidents are Edwina
McKee and Gladys Ladd.
Mrs. McKee says there are
some very good artists in
town and the Goderich Art
Club is a good and active
group. Besides the spring
showing at the library of their'
own work, they "babysit" art
displays that come to the
library from out-of-town
organizations and clubs.
Some of the members take
art correspondence courses
through the Department of
Education. The club takes a
break from June to Sep-
tember and several of the
members then take a sum-
mer course from Edna
Johnson, another member of
the Goderich club, at the
Southampton School of Art
where she instructs.
So, next time you're looking
for a book at the library - look
up. Hanging on the walls, you
will see a fine display oflocal
talent. Yotl don't even have to
go on the pretence of looking

The Goderich Art Club's most senior member, Dolly
Bruce, was on hand at the opening of the Club's art
display at the library last Thursday evening to greet
those who dropped by. Here, she shows one of her lah-
dscapes paintings. She says she likes to paint flowers,
trees and water but not people. She took art lessons in
Toronto at one time. She is also an avid golfer and only
gave up that sport a few years ago after a fall. (Photo by

I ordered from a mail order
firm, a complete table tennis
set. This, naturally included
the table which was supposed
to fold up for easy storage
when not in use. The set
arrived on time, but the table
doesn't fold because a metal
bar that should have been
included, wasn't!
When I phoned to tell them

send one right away. They
were true to their word, but
the bar that we received was
too short for our table.

I am a married woman but
my husband, for no good
reason, has left me. What do I
have to do to show he has
deserted me?
Four elements must he
satisfied to prove desertion —
(1) the fact that husband and
wife are living separately, (2)
the -!'animus" or desire, in this
case, on the husband's part to
desert the wife, (3) absence of
wife's consent as to the
husband's separation and (4)
absence of conduct by the wife
that would justify the living
apart by the deserting
husband. Basically., if any one
of these elements does not
exist, then desertion does not
exist.
We would strongly suggest
that you consult a lawyer for
advice and if money Is a
problem your local legal aid
office should he able to assist
you.
