"I would like to stay longer,
maybe two, three or four
weeks.'' Anne Marie
Lefebvre's sentiments
reflected those of her 25
fellow students as they
reluctantly boarded a bus and
prepared to return to Mon-
treal.
"I would stay a whole
year," Carole Lambert in-
terjected.
Anne Marie and Carole
were part of a 26 -student
contingent from Ecole
Secondaire Marie Anne in
Montreal that participated in
a cultural exchange program
with a group of French
students at Goderich and
District Collegiate Institute
this past weekend.
And the parting sentiments
expressed by the two high
schoolers were indicative of
the bonds and relationships
formed between the two
a
groups on their brief cultural
exchange. -
The program was arranged
by French department head,
Paul Howe, through the
bilingual secretariat in
Ottawa. Howe wrote to the

Album and artist: PARIS
Label: Capitol
Way back in, I975 when 'Bob Welch was known as a
falling artist who left Fleetwood Mac just before their big
break, there was a dream: a different type of hard rock.
Bob Welch, now a star with his Sentimental Lady
album and single and Ebony Eyes on the lips of every pop
and rock fan, wanted in on that dream.
He teamed up with Thom Mooney and ex -Jethro Tull
player Glenn Cornick to form Paris, which would play
just that different type of music.
Sadly, Paris has been neglected, except by a knowing
few, and resides peacefully in the $2.99 bin in some ob-
scure record shop. What a shame.
Paris'. first album was an interesting and a( times
brilliant elpee, and should be a monument to bands like
Max Webster, BeBop Deluxe and other of the stranger
metal -mongers.
The lyrics can be understood quite easily, but the
underlying meanings cannot.
The music ranges from the intentionally boring to the
standard boogie to the absolutely divine. Wow.
Side one. Cut one: Religion. Music type: standard
British heavy rock. Comments: Welch sounds great
here. Otherwise no surprises.
Cut two: Black Book. Music type: boogie. Comments:
continuation of Religion, sounds like -recent Led Zep-
pelin.-
Third cut: Starcage. Music type: rock, beyond
description. Comments: synthesized rhythm, great
guitar licks, fantastic vocals, very deep lyric.'A classic
cut.•
Fourth cut: Beautiful Youth. Music type: riff -rock.
Comments: speaks to the nouveau rich, namely, us.
Fifth cut: Nazarene. Music type: hard, heavy blues.
Comments: It is a hell of a love boogie. Welch sings it
flawlessly.
Second side. First cut: Narrow Gate. Music type:
progressive rock.` Comments: it works. Most progressive
1 rock doesn't. ;
Second, third, fourth, fifth.cuts: more good riff -rock
and,heavy British metal.
E -Z -2 -C -Y this was overlooked. Mediocrity sell's better:
Oh well, there are some out there who know. This is four-
star hard rock.

DENIM

At•G.D.C.I.:
Well another. week has gone by and it was full one!!! A
few of the Grade 13s have told me that the assignments
are getting kinda numerous. There were suggestions that
I should complain here in the column. Well here it
.6,, comes...HEY! ! !WILL YOU GUYS COOL IT!!! That's it
for what it's worth. I warn you not to expect too much
'cause the pen's not always mightier than the sword and
those teachers can be kirtda mean.
It's not only the Grade 13s who get mentioned in this
column though. Following ''a somewhat radical policy
that all students are created equal (even Grade 9ers), I
am endeavouring to cover the full spectru>IL,o school
activities this week.
One of those activities is this week's music night. Get
your tickets from band members and come on out to the
school on Thursday night to hear the Westminster band
and • our own concert band echoing forth the music that
you love to hear (no I don't mean the Old Vienna song).
From Friday to Tuesday, we had the pleasure of en-
tertaining guests of the French students who were visitng
from Quebec., They were returning a visit by the
Goderich kids earlier in the year and I know that the
visits were happy experiences for both parties. Any
difficulties in communication were easily overcome with
the inter -national language...a smile.
Getting back to the important members of the student
body, the seniors ! ! ! The graduation banquet is in the
works for early June with tickets costing $2 and the ever
generous students' council paying half the tab. It's nice
that the cost is cut to $2 'cause I for one am having a hard
time of it what with buyingexpensive sociology texts and
the likes...Seriously though, it's a really nice gesture and ..
I'm sure the Grade 12s and 13s appreciate it.
I guess that's all again. If I've forgotten anything, just
tell me about it. Please, no lynching this week. It in-
terrupts classes. See ya next week.
