Over the years, the Maple
Leaf Chapter of the I.O.D.E.
have been able to purchase
several items for the hospital
as well. In the past 10 to 15
years alone, the chapter has
given a medical records
library, a stretcher, a
pacemaker, a daptone for
measuring fetal heartbeats,
two rocking chairs for the
pediatric ward and a portable
aspirating pump for the
emergency ward.

carpet cleaner cleans more
efficiently in far Tess time .®e and
because it uses less solution
per gallon it's more economical.
Hg's why it's better
Unlike other leading carpet cleaners which
have 1 or 2 or 3 spray jets, STEAMEX has no
fewer than six heavy-duty forged brass spray
jets that blast dirt loose for fast professional
cleaning. One of the leading carpet cleaners
maintains that its unit will clean approximately
135 sq. ft. per hour. The STEAMEX cleans
approximately 400 sq. ft. per hour - three
times as fast. Furthermore, other cleaners
have 3 and 5 gallon supply tanks. The
STEAMEX has a big 7 gallon tank so you
change the water less and save time and ef-
fort. And here's something very important:
with the STEAMEX unit, you only have to add
1 ounce of Steamex solution per gallon. One
of the other leading carpet cleaners advises
you to use two ounces of their solution. It all
adds up. STEAMEX cleans more efficiently in
less time, and because it uses less solution
per gallon it keeps your costs down.

Fire — should it break out in your home — may spread more
quickly if the panels in your home have a high flame spread rating.
Furthermore, if your project requires a building permit your local
building inspector may require you to remove any prefinished
panelling that does not have an acceptable flame spread rating.
What is a flame spead rated panel? The flame spread rating of a
prefinished panel is an index, indicating the extent of spread of
flame on the surface of the panel as determined in a fire test con-
ducted in accordance with the provisions of the"Ontario Building
Code.
Section 9.10.17.1. of the Ontario Building Code provides that a
flame spread rating of 150 is acceptable for the exposed surface
of interior walls and ceilings. So look for the rating stamp on the
back of the panels you buy — and choose from those rated at 150
or Tess such as the five mentioned above.
Please note: the names we, give to all our panels are simply intended to con-
vey to the reader the color and appearance of the panelling. Most are either
prints or paper overlays.

luncheons, wine and cheese
parties, theatre nights and
dessert -card parties. Two
years ago, the chapter
brought the .children's
favorite, Mr. Dressup, to
Goderich for two sell-out
performances to help raise
money. Members are
presently planning a fasthion
show for September.
During Goderich's
Sesquicentennial year, the
Maple Leaf Chapter was very
busy, to say the least. They
brought a display to town of
the replicas of the crown
jewels, entered a float in the
Jubilee 3 parade, entered and
won first prize in the table
setting contest, held a
citizenship court reception in
Court House Park, presented
the book, Memories of
Goderich, to the Honorable
Pauline McGibbon and held a
reception in her... honor at
Harbor Park during her visit
to town. The Ah meek Chapter
also made a presentation to
the Honorable Pauline
McGibbon.
The Maple Leaf Chapter of
the I.O.D.E. meets once a
month at the various mem-
bers homes and new mem-
bers are always welcome.
Mrs. W.J. (Doreen) Garrow
Doreen Garrow
has been Regent of this
chapter since February.
"We are quite proud of our
membership," she says; "the
age span makes for good;
organization."
In 1975 the Maple Leaf
Chapter was very proud to be
the first recipient of the. New
Membership Award
presented by the Provincial
Chapter of Ontario for having
the most new members in
their chapter. All the
members are hard' workers
says Mrs_ Garrow and many
of them do volunteer work for
other organizations as well as
the I.O.D.E. Two members,
Mrs. D.D. Mooney and Mrs.
D. Aberhart have their 50
year pins.
An advantage to having a
large membership says Mrs.
Garrow is being able to hear
by word of mouth, projects
which need to be undertaken
in town.
In the past, the chapter has
bought capes for the Goderich
Laketown Band for use when
marching in colder weather
and have donated symphony
tickets to the high school.
This year the Maple Leaf
Chapter is sponsoring an
essay contest for Grades 3 to 8
in Goderich. They are also
offering another five week
babysitting course to boys
and girls through the schools.
The Maple Leaf Chapter
members also send money to
the national and provincial
chapters as mentioned with
their main interests in
education and services.
Members do knitting and
sewing and send their han-
dmade articles to the
provincial chapter for
distribution. They also make
up nursery bags containing
items like toothpaste, soap
and toys to be distributed
through Save the Children's
Fund. Also, says -'Mrs.
Garrow, the I.O,D:E. is the
only organization to supply
powdered milk to poverty
stricken Lesotho.
Canada now more than
ever, needs every cohesive
influence which is available.
As I.O.D.E. members work
together, each in her own
sphere yet also within a much
larger framework, the unity
of purpose becomes a
tangible force which can add
its own strength to that
nation. For 78 years this unity
of jrurpose has been a con-
tinuing program of service to
Canada. Goderich's two
chapters, with their proud
histories • and lists of ac-
complishments, have - added
to this program of service to
Canada as well as to the town
and a big thank you goes out to
all the members.
