recipients.
'eat The Minister also an-
nounced the new maximum
amounts which will

persons who yfy
or
benefits in 1978.
The current retirement
pensions, disability and
survivors' benefits, paid to an
estimated 965,000 persons,
5
iI1 be raised by per
m reflect increases in the
Consumer Price62,Oof
Index.
Approximately
these persons are retirement
pensioners, while 67,200 are
disability pensioners and
153,500 are surviving spouses.
Another 125,300 payments
are for children who receive
benefits as orphans or
children of disabled con-
tributors...In addition, there
are 17,000 combined benefits,
such as for a surviving spouse
who receives a retirement
pension and a survivors'
benefit,
For persons qualifying in
1978, the maximum
retirement pension will be
6194,44 a month. The
maximum disability pension
payable in 1978 will be $194.02
ITh a month, while benefits for
disabled contributors'
children and orphans of
deceased contributors will be
$48.19. The maximum
monthly surviving spouses'
pensions will be $121.11 for
persons under 65 years old
and $116,66 for spouses 65 or
odder.
These increased benefit
vels, for persons who
qualify in 1978, reflect the rise
m the contributory earnings
ceiling (Year's Maximum
ensionable Earnings),
ich was recently an -
'minced by Revenue Canada
$10,400 for 1978.
The rise in the Year's
aximum Pensionable
Earnings results in an in -
tease in the maximum
ount of money people
ntribute to the Canada
Pension Plan and therefore,
increase in benefits.
The Year's Maximum
nsionable Earnings is
