Mrs. Pearl Congram had a
cataract removed from her
eye in Victoria Hospital in
London on Tuesday. She is
spending a few days with her
daughter Gloria. .Mr. and
Mrs. Nelson Pearson, while
she recuperates.
Little Christopher Maize,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Johnny
Maize, was taken to Goderich
Hospital on Saturday evening
and put in an oxygen tent for
the croup.
Mr. Lorne Hasty is spen-
ding a few days with his
daughter, Miss Irene Hasty,
in Kamloops, B.C. Irene is
nursing in the hospital there.
Mr. Harold Campbell from
Kamloops, B.C. spent about
ten days with his parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Dynes Campbell
recently.
Mrs. Glen MacDonald (nee
Sue Godfrey ) of Kitchener
spent the weekend with her
parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Howard Godfrey.
Mrs. Joy Vella and Tammy
of Seaforth spent the weekend
with Mrs. Mary Bere and
Jamie. Miss Debbie Vella of
Goderich visited on Sunday
and they also visited with Mr.
and Mrs, Graham McNee and
Mrs. Ross McNee.
Kathie and John Stanbury
visited her mother, Mrs,
Mary Bere and Jamie on
Sunday.
Mrs. Russell Johnston
returned home on Monday
after being in. Wingham
Hospital for about a week.
Scott Adkin, formerly of
Chatham area, is making his
home with his sister Carol
and her husband, Mr. and
Mrs. Leonard Reid, and
working for George Smith.
Scott has been at Reid's for
thclast two months or so.
Mrs. Cecil Blake and Miss
Beth 'McConnell motored to
Stratford on Sunday af-
ternoon. Beth visited • her
cousin, Miss Lotta Gibson
while Olive went to the.
funeral home to offer her
condolences to the family of
Mrs. Jack Hamilton who died
on Saturday( from injuries
suffered in an accident a
month ago.
CHURCH NEWS
The lighting of the First
Advent Candle took place
during the Sunday morning
service at the Dungannon
United Church. After the
choir sang the anthem, "The
Wind Through the Olive

Trees", Annette Curran and
Craig McNeill explained'; its
significance and lit the
candle. The first Advent
candle is a symbol of Hope,
the hope of the Messiah or
promised Deliverer kept
alive by a succession of
prophets through the dark
ages of Israel's history. Rev.
C.G. Westhaver's sermon,
"The Longing for World
Salvation", dealt with the
"hope • of salvation" as it
relates to today's world.
White Gift Sunday will be
ovserved at Dungannon
United Church next Sunday,
December 11. The Sunday
School will join with the
congregation in a special
order of service as printed in
Toronto with a leader,
narrator, story tellers, and
special music. The service
will be preceded by the
lighting of the two Adv‘nt
candles. Dungannon Sunday
School offering will be by
envelope for World
Development (M and S).
'Explorers of Dungannon

children in a needy part of the

put on by the children, The
kits will he sent to M.C.C. in
Kitchener and will be
distributed from there.

from Isaiah 7:14. Pastor
Lawrence showed -- how
Christ's virgin birth was
foretold, and that He was to
come to earth to be our

Lieut. Lynda Watt of the Goderich Salvation Army started the group's annual Christmas
campaign with a donation. The Salvation Army will begin their Christmas campaign this
Thursday on The Square and at Suncoast Mall, and will continue every weekend until
Christmas. The donations are used to maintain their welfare work throughout the year.

Earl and Martha Heywood
opened up the holiday season
at Maitland Manor with their
visit on November 30. With
lively singing, amusing
stories and Earl's magical
genius, the residents had a
delightful time. A return visit
in the spring is looked for-
ward to. -
Over the past few weeks the
residents have been busy
making . Christmas
decorations for the home and
their tree with the 'help of
volunteers.
Dressing up of the Manor is
now in progress with the help
of volunteer groups of
Children from the com-
munity. The home has to have
a festive appearance to
welcome the visitors ex-
pected this month.
The monthly birthday party
put on by the Legion I-aclies
will be held December 14,
Celebrating birthdays this
