MacDonald,
Weary to decide
first place in
chess standings
Last week, Charlie
MacDonald made a strong
bid to take over first place by
picking up three wins.
However, Dave Weary also
won three games to maintain
a hold on first place with 14
wins to Charlie's 13. Next
week Dave and Charlie have
made arrangements to get
together for that all im-
portant game which will
decide who really belongs on
top.
Jim Kingsley tried to close
in on Louis Stadelmann by
winning his game. However,
Jim's game turned out to be' a
long three hour battle leaving
no time for a second game
while Louis picked up two
victories to strengthen his
hold on third place. Louis also
moved up into third place in
the most improved race with
an increase of .096 over last
season.
In Level 2, Kirk Lyndon got
a win and a draw to move into
first place tying Sam
Hassan's win -loss mark of

Hammill won a tough game
last week to advance to fourth
place and increase his win -
loss mark by 47 points. We
have a big four way tie for the
last third level position!
Larry Gower holds the
position because of his three
wins and two draws but Bob
Fitzjames, Timmy Reid and
Doug Brindley have all
equalled Larry's .250 per-
centage. To further com-
plicate matters, Jim Gower
rejoined the club last week
and started his season with
one win in four games to also
have a .250 percentage.
Welcome back Jim!
Barry Page continues to
lead as the most improved
player with an increase of 203
points! Sam Hassan is also
having a very good season up
.132 points over last year.

...the Ski
The question asked most often in Ski touring is Wh[chski
should I buy?"
The question is as difficult to answer as you want to make
it. • --you answer it.....
There are two basic types of skis -wood soled or synthetic
sole. As other features are added tb these skis obviously
eoch gets more expensive.
The two most common wood soles are birch and hickory.
The birch soles hold wax very well but the hickory is more
wear resistant, both require pine -tarring.
With a petro -based wax the Synthetic sole provides good
performance. Another advantage is that this Ski does not
require tarring. Furthermore, synthetic skis only need to be
waxed in the gripe area.
The Synthetic Soles require minimal care. The anti-slipsynthetic sole assists some skiers over the waxing problem.
But once fully understood, waxing is as big or little a
problem as you care to make it.
The SOLE' of the Ski makes the ski convenient or axon-
venient- to use—according to your preferences. The skis

determines the ski that you may buy. Ski Cores range from
wood laminates, wood -fiberglass laminates to fiberglass•
foam. As you get more synthetic products in the ski you also
get more durability. They are less likely to break and likemost everything, cost more as a result
