Grade 6- class planned an
excellent assembly program
on the ' Remembrance ',Day
theme for Thursday,
November Ill. Guest speaker
was Mr. Stewart;' Collyer of
Lucknow who spoke of his
experience in World War II.
He stressed the fact that we
do not have 'R.emembrance.
Day to glorify war but to
remember and do honor to
those who died that we might
have peace.
Two films were shown
sinultaneously, one called
"Total War" telling the main
events in the last war and
depicting graphically many
of the horrors of war. The
other was a silent film in
color of "Holiday in. Canada".

working people can be Block

to remember and look for the
sign and not the house itself.
Hooper would like to see
more than one Block Parent
on each block in town. In total
he would like to have about
300 Block Parents or more in
Goderich.
There was only a small
attendance at Wednesday
evening's meeting but it was
a start and Hooper says he is
not discouraged. Everyone he
has talked to abetitthe Block
Parent program has thought
it to be a good idea.
Hooper has approached
Goderich schools, -the
Ministerial Association, town
council and several industries
in town asking for their
support of the Block Parent
program. All have been
receptive to the idea but as of
yet nothing concrete has been
done except for a Dear
Parent letter which will soon
be sent out by the schools with
a Block Parent form on it for
parents to fill out.
Hooper figures the Block
Parent program will require
between $800 and $1,000 to get
started in Goderich. The
money would mainly go
toward printing costs for
information flyers and the
window signs, used in the
program. Once the program
is underway, it will require
little or no money. Hooper
hopes most of the money will
come from donations. The
Goderich Lions, Club has
offered $100.
Hooper has donated slides
on the Block Parent program
to the Goderich Police
Department who will im-
plement them in their regular,
safety education classes held
in the schools every year.

FOR. MEN
The women present at
Wednesday evening's
meeting expressed the
thought that the Block Parent
program is not only good
security for children, but also
for women who may
sometimes be harassed if
they are walking alone at
night.
Hooper says he is willing to
go anywhere in town to talk
about the Block Parent
program. He has all the
information on the program
available to answer
questions.
If ' an''.6ne'` would like 'to
contact • Hooper with
questions about the Block
Parent Program, its for-
mation or how to become a
Block Parent, simply phone
524-9049. Information can also
be obtained •from Charmian
Hills by writing to 313 Huron
Road, Goderich. Support is
needed from citizens to make
the Block Parent program
work in Goderich.

The higher an executive gets,
the more he forgets simple
things - like how to get his
coffee, and how to dial a
phone.
Marg MacFie of Knox Presbyterian Church's Arthur
Circle group fills up a few. of the many pie shells baked by
that group last Wednesday. The pie bake is held annually
by the group and proceeds from the pies sold go toward
the various projects of the Women's Missionary Society.
