The Goderich Signal-Star, 1977-11-10, Page 30rf qF i$G PAGE 1OA-.4d15ERIC]1•'Ir IGNAL.STAR, `I'HtJRSDAY, NOVEMBER 10, 1977 Count your blessings BY ALFRED FRY RETIRED MINISTER, UNITED CHURCH Psalm 135, verse 1, starts with "Praise Ye The Lord. Praise Ye The Name of The Lord. Praise Him, 0 Ye Servants." This covers a large area. We have so much for which to Praise The Lord, if we stop to consider the many blessings we will have no reason or time to complain and grumble. }3inrt4 it is gyite evident in the hec.rts of many people that we are more prone to criticize others, than we are to praise. We seem to see the faults and failures in others, vet close our eyes to our own. How often we could make others happy by commending them, instead of finding fault. }low true this can be in our praise to, Almighty God for the wonders of His love. How often after corning through some trying experience, when His love has been so manifest, we complain in- stead of praising. How true this has been during the recent rainy weather. Psalm 135 is a psalm of Moses, Moses is chiding the children of God for their constant complaining. God had delivered them from slavery in Egypt. The people complained of hunger and the fear of heing followed by the enemy. 'doses reminds them of the goodness of God. He says. "Stop Lind consider, instead of complaining." Praise The Lord. Then Praise int. name Of The Lord, think of that that name stands for: holiness, gond ries, truth. Then you ser- vants of The Lord, praise God for the privilege of serving Hing. by .setting the example before others. When \ ' praise God for Toronto man buried C. E.\RLE STEW.ART C. If we were to praise God for our misery, it would bring an end to them. What a change conmesi into our hearts when we praise God, instead of complaining. This is true in our attitude toward others, when we learn to commend others instead of knocking them, our whole personality is changed, and We make them happy. Moses reminds the peopl that God has chosen them to be His people, (You have not Chosen me, but I have chosen you). This is true of the child of God, and when we consider these things, our hearts should be full of gratitude and we should praise Him. Then there are the treasuries of God. They• can never be exhausted. God has enough for' everyone: Love and Grace abounding, Sunshine, Rain, The Wind, Avenues of Prayer, God's unlimited power, both on earth and in Heaven above. Above all, that great Salvation from Sin, and His crowning Glory, through Jesus Christ His Son, Eternal life in Heaven above. (John 3,16.) Reunion with the saints who have gone on before. What more can we wish for? May we seek the guidance of God's Holy Spirit. (The Third Person in The -Trinity) and surrender our hearts and lives to Jesus Christ, then we will Praise God now, and throughout Eternity.
