The topping for any party is an attractive lunch and the girls really excelled with delicious punch, fruits, ap- . petizing morsels for that tempting. chocolate fondue, various biscuits and cheese and more fruits served buffet style. There was a friendly flow of conversation during the complete party but especially during the lunch hour when everyone remarked how tasty everything was. It was a perfect way of meeting the 4- H girls of Group No. 2 and their mothers. While all the members felt they wished they had been able to take this project, the leader presented each with the Book of Recipes so they can be tried at home. It 'was a very enjoyable evening and a delight to see the girls taking such an in- terest. SOCIAL NEWS Mark Montgomery and Jeff Fisher of Colborne Township were visiting their parents over the weekend. These two young men are attending George Brown College in Toronto, Casa Loma Campus Colborne corner Gertrude Kaitting, correspondent, 524-2076 for their first term in ap- prenticeship. Mark is ap- prenticing in brick laying and Jeff in metal mechanic and glazier. They are living with Jeff's sister Janet Sheardown and Brian. . • Mr. James Pope, Waterloo, Quebec, and Mrs. Velma Lowson, Toronto, visited their mother Mrs. L. Pope, who is living with her son Mr. and Mrs. R. Buchanan at present. Mr. and Mrs. Lou Fulford, Elk Lake. are visiting their sister 'Helen Fulford,' Maitland Mapor, and friends and neighbors in the district: Guests with Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Kellestine and family were Mr. Kellestine's cousin, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Bradley, Melfort, Saskatchewan. Colborne Central School children will have two holidays this month, ,one on Friday November 11, for Remembrance Day and one. on Wednesday November 30 for Professional Day. CHURCH NEWS The ladies of Benmiller United Church held their main U.C.W. meeting in the Church on Wednesday, November at . p.m. with a fairly good attendance. The Benmiller Unit was in charge with Mrs. Frank McMichael presiding and opening the meeting with a poem on "Hearts';,',' which trait followed by all; ja nipg ;A hymn and a prayer >-be!q$ offered. The devotions were bn ; "Faith" and ably presented by Mrs. Ben Straughan, Mrs. Don. Treble and Mrs. F.144cMichael. h ' Secretary, Mrs.. John Feagan, read the minutes of the previous meeting and Treasurer, Mrs. Wm. Jewell gave an ,eni~gura'ging report. Mrs. F. McMichael and Mrs. Don Treble gave reports of the Regional meeting held recently. - Several items , of business were discussed like a reminder of the Christmas Sunday School supper. It was decided that December 7 will be the Main U.C.W. groups, at 1'2:30 and members may bring a guest. The next meeting will be in January with the Irish Unit in charge. The meeting was closed and after the benediction lunch was served by Mrs. F. McMichael and Mrs. Ben Straughan. Holmesville ladies meet On Tuesday evening` November, 1 at 7:00 p.m. in Holmesville. United Church, 46 penny savers and Mrs. Gertrude Feagan enjoyed a delicious and bountiful smorgasbord - dinner prepared by Mrs. Betty Stoner and her group. She thanked her group for their co-operation saving pennies and preparing the meal. Mrs. Isobel Sturdy thanked her group for saving pennies. After the dinner, Mrs. Gertrude Feagan told of the many places of interest, also showed slides on them which were taken as they toured the coastline of Scotland during her husband's winter break. He taught school in Glasgow from November to July. They resided on the campus of Sterling University while in Scotland. Mrs. Charlotte Norman thanked Mrs. Feagan for her slides and commentary. Business was conducted by Mrs. Phyllis Cox. A letter of thanks was received from the John Milton Society. Mrs. Jean Wyatt told the ladies her husband plans to take the articles for the hale to London Mission Service by November 18th. The meeting closed by repeating the benediction in unison. School news On Wednesday, November Constable Bill Wilson at- tended the school and held seminars with the pupils on 'bus safety. Each session consisted of a film and discussion period in Which the responsibilities of the pupils, while on the bus, were outlined. The school bus has 10 safety rules. Constable Wilson's visit to the school was much appreciated and it is hoped that the pupils would heed his advice so they can travel to and from school safely. On Thursday, November 10th a special Remembrance Day service will be held in the school gymnasium to observe this very important day. As part of the service, the pupils will he wearing poppies presented to them ° by the Clinton Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion and the pupils are asked to bring contributions to the school for the poppies. The money raised helps the Legion to carry out the many important duties, so we ask your support of their endeavours. There will he no school Novemher 11 To raise money to carry out its various activities, the pupils from this school will be participating in chocolate bar Holmesville news Blanche Deeves, correspondent 482-3383 sales. Vice-president Irene Heykoop took charge of the meeting. The roll call, "tell the group about one of the fruit dishes you served at home and what your com- ments and family's com- ments were," was answered by 15 members. Next meeting for demonstration is on November 1_1, The members all exchanged recipes. All books are to be in to the leader by November ' lst. Samples of three foreign fruits were shown and discussed and tasted • Keivy, papayas, pomegranate; fruits as garnishes and ac- companiments were discussed. Fruit specialties spicy and sweet ones were discussed by members. Fruit and cheese trays, fruit fondue and fruit arrangements were read from the members' pam- phlets. They made frosted grapes and arranged them on a dish with apple wedges. Young People visit each other Sitting watching traffic on a lazy dreary Sunday af- ternoon, made me wonder if some people who drive cars and trucks have special privileges or licenses, that allow them not to stop •at a stop sign or let them pass every car in sight. CHURCH NEWS Ashfield Presbyterian Church was the meeting place at 8 p.m. on Sunday evening when the Knox Church young people were the guests of the Ashfield Church young people. Nathan Pountney (left) and Aron Duckworth play in the miniature barnyard at the Municipal Day Nursery. The nursery consists of two rooms. There's the Active Room 'with lots of toys for children with energy to spare and there's the Creative Room for more serious children who like to paint, draw or put puzzles together. Children are allowed to flow from activity to activity as they choose. They only have to conform at Circle Time when they sit down with their supervisor to read or sing. (staff photo) s?
