leaders as guests at their program, a film entitled The
meeting in the gym at Vic- Flower Show arranged by the
toria School on Wednesday, Toronto Garden Club and

The Green Thumbers Building of the Canadian
presented a skit entitled
Bluebird on Your Window Sill
as their contribution to the
program. This interesting
play shows how young people
can become interested in
working together to improve
the environment, particularly
in their effort to attract the
bluebird to nest in the area.
Bill Wisser gave an in-
teresting and informative
talk at the Garden Club's
meeting about the Maitland
Trail, He explained,_,with the
use of maps, the work that is
done by the Trail Association
and their project aims for the
future. Members are en-

Goderich's club members
had journeyed to Toronto to
see this particular show and
were pleased to view this
outstanding display of blooms
againi on film.

joyed by everyone following
the meeting.

Lucknow has travelled across
Canada from coast to coast.
She's been to almost every
state in the U.S. including
Hawaii. And she's also visited
South America and the
Cariebean but of all the places
travelling
she's seen and been to, Mrs.
McCharles says there's no
place better than"\her own
little community ofL chat h.
True to the adage, ,
no
place like home", Mrs.
McCharles loves the farm
where she lives with her

porcelain painting at night school in Ripley. Mrs. McCharles also likes baking, quilting
and embroidery. She has written the Lochalsh news for the Lucknow Sentinel for the last
35 years. She also contributes to the Goderich Signal -Star, the Kincardine Independent,
the Kincardine News Record, CKNX and the London Free Press. (staff photo)
husband Oliver and she loves
her community. Perhaps this
explains why, after 35 years
of writing the Lochalsh news
for the Lucknow Sentinel,,
Mrs. McCharles is per-
severing to keep her 'com-
munity alive through her
news column.
At one time Lochalsh
consisted of a post office, a
church, two stores and a
couple of schools but now it is
just a neighborhood con-
sisting of several farm
families. Mrs. McCharles
says it is a great Scottish
community with real com-
munity spirit. Her neighbors,
she says, always offer to help
with her and her husband's
chores when they go away.
"I love this community. I
want it to be known. I think
it's worth keeping alive," she
says. She feels that the little
things one does in life are
important and she also thinks
that it is important to do
things for one's community.
"It's important to help out
your fellow man. There's no
greater reward than doing
something for someone else,"
she says.
